Radio Nikkei reported that Japan Racing Association announced that Dylan Thomas will run Japan Cup on 11/25.
The detailed schedule of Dylan Thomas was also announecd by JRA that he will arrive Japan 11/15 by KL861 flight.http://keiba.radionikkei.jp/news/20071107K04.html
Personally, I doubt DT will run Japan Cup because stud fee for him has already been set, and no other sources in Europe and USA have reported the news….
November 7, 2007 at 09:46 #123365Would be wonderful if he did and I hope the owners take up the challenge (rather than act like accountants).

Agreed 100% that’s what it should be about, racing! Not stud fees and valuations..
November 7, 2007 at 09:56 #123368Would be sheer madness to subject him to another long journey and tough race after the season he’s had- can’t believe he’ll go.
November 7, 2007 at 10:06 #123370Maybe true, but wouldnt this had been a more appropiate target from a racing point of view than Monmouth (regardless of the weather there)
November 7, 2007 at 10:51 #123376you’d have to think he will not run in Japan,
After 2 tough races in the Arc and Breeders Cup in October, I dont think he would show is best in Japan should he make the journey and race.

I would love to think he would run. He would almost certainly get his ground and could cement his position as best horse in the World with very little doubt.
Surely that must be worth something, even to Coolmore?November 7, 2007 at 11:28 #123383Just read this report on Sporting Life. Would be brilliant if he made the trip as like was said above, he would almost certainly get his favoured ground and i doubt he would face any majorly stiff opposition either. The long trip over would be a concern though but with AoB having said before how much the horse loves his racing, why not? He has had a long season but after the disapointment of Monmouth, i would be very inclined to give Dylan one last Hoorah!!
November 7, 2007 at 11:57 #123392Could very well be a possibility. He’s better than the other European opposition, presumably the US turf horses and should easily account for the Japanese horse Meisho Samson on a formline through Ouija Board.
Japanese owners are amongst the wealthiest in the world and they have a particular fondness for the Northern Dancer Line plus the Arc has huge prestige in Japan. Sheikh Mohammed is also gaining a foothold in the Japanese market with a Darley operation there and he has the breeding rights to Admire Moon.
So given the opportunity to show-off Coolmore to Japanese owners, beatable opposition, optimum trip, fast ground and huge prizemoney it does make sense.
November 7, 2007 at 12:16 #123398crazy idea, after such a long season
November 7, 2007 at 12:31 #123399Not a crazy as running him on a bog round a dog track.

From memory, Michael Tabor was wondering if DT had had enough after the Irish Champion Stakes and worried about going to the well too often.
Having since won the Arc and run with some credit in the BC Turf I wouldn’t blame them for having one last hurrah in the Tokyo race as it’s set up for him to bow out on a high if he’s still in good shape.

Couldnt agree more! Would be great to see this top class horse go out on a high, just a shame it didnt happen at the Breeders because if he had won that, i doubt this would have ever been considered.

Tracks is an oval just like Monmouth, track has turf and Dirt racing just like Monmouth
The circumference however, is bigger, so you could describe horses running in the Japan Cup as just running round a bigger dog track
November 7, 2007 at 16:57 #123449The track at Fuchu is 50% longer than Monmouth. The longer straights and sweeping bends will certainly suit DT more than Monmouth ever would.
As for DT’s going preferences….its been covered.

.Like many, you seem to have a bit of a biased opinion as to what is and what is not a racecourse and what is and what is not horses racing
Similar layout , same type of racing, but because it’s a bigger, it’s not deemed a dog track by your goodself
November 7, 2007 at 19:15 #123475Have you been there, empty wallet? The only similarity with Monmouth is that they run in the same direction.
