Is it just me or have the placepot pools for evening racing increased dramatically over the last few months, from memory the average pool for an ordinary meeting at say Wolverhampton used to be £40-£45K. It now appears to regularly top the £100K mark. Which it was last night at Wolves. Not bad for a Thursday night.

The only reason I can see for that is that perhaps 48hr decs are starting to have an effect, and the pool is being bolstered by money from abroad. Particularly for evening race meetings which tie in with a particular countrys daytime.

If this is the case I’d be interested to know which countries are now contributing increased amounts to the pot. Australia or the US perhaps.

I’d hazard a guess that very few people from outside GB and Ireland have a go at our Placepots.

However, it’s not impossible for ‘foreingers’ to have a go because anyone with a Totesport account or a Ladbrokes account can have a go at the Placepot – and I’m sure there are other sites that I’m not aware of. I can’t see many American’s having a go at our night meetings as they are ran at the same time as their own racing.

It is good though that the pools are increasing, though it is a mystery as to why mediocre night meetings are getting bigger pools than quality day meetings – something to do with people being at work during the day perhaps.

There was a fair increase in the size of the pools some months ago, once William Hill, the last major bookmaker to take placepots outside of the pool, stopped doing so, and made sure that all placepot bets went into the pool.
