Dont think the press liked it Zoe Bird was critical in her Sun column yesterday and apparently the press had trouble getting to the winning trainers after each race as they had to go from 2nd floor through the crowds. A teletext reader today says they have destroyed a great day out and the facilities are worse. First comment of that nature ive heard.
August 19, 2007 at 10:20 #111735I wouldn’t be too worried about anything Zoe Bird has to say on the subject.
The new stand isn’t perfect – nothing ever is – but even if you don’t like it "destroyed a great day out" is a tad over the top.

My heart bleeds
There was a problem on the lower rungs of the new stand regarding just what constituted Tatts, Press and Members with no obvious signs or gates, with the result that stressed security staff (on minimum wage unlike Miss Bird) were busy collaring and re-directing the badgeless hither and yon.
Gus,
I bumped into Long Eddie several times during the afternoon as we seemed to be on a similar fact finding circuit; it’s good to know he likes the place as he’s one of the few racing hacks who’s views I respect
August 19, 2007 at 13:13 #111754It’s clear from Fremantle’s article that he walked the course as well as taking the trouble to explore the new development for himself and actually speak to people to get their opinions. I’d be amazed if Bird did either. It sums up the difference between the two in a nutshell and it’s why Fremantle is worth listening to and Bird isn’t.

August 23, 2007 at 18:57 #112334The local news paper in Doncaster has done an article on the new racecourse lets just say they arent many positive comments,
complaints of power failures, lifts not working tarmac instead of paving etc.
The cost of annual membership going up from £350 to £700 has angered many one interviewee said he knew people who asked for their money back.
Another non member said the toilets were full of rubble and the grandstand is awful and it shouldnt have been opened.
Most of the article is derogatory and really doesnt have a good word about it.
One person said he was underwhelmed and the only the good thing was the stables being on track he thinks thay a oppotunity to make the racecourse the finest in Europe and it is just plain ordinary.
