What dog does everyone own on here?

Would anyone have a Weimaraner, wanted to know a bit more about them.

Have a German Pointer myself, a lovely placid breed who my family have always had.

As well as being excellent hunters, they’re unbelievably gentle, particularly with children.

I have whippets. Not sure about Weimaraners; think they’re a bit mental and their eyes are very cold looking and sort of glow in the dark…a friend of mine had one called Spook, which I thought was a fantastic name. Similar looking but totally different in temperament [they’re very sensitive] are Vizslas; if I had the time and the money to own a larger dog I think that’s what I would have.

WOW! These dogs are majestic, everything you’d need in a dog. Watched a video on them just a minute ago, they are a cross between the Weimaraner and German Pointer, the thing that attracted me to the Wermaraner was their big feet!

Check this video out on the Vizslas

haha i’m such a typical girl, got a little blenheim cavvy king charles. Prefer big dogs on the whole, but love the breed and he’s just nice to have around.

A friend of mine has a weimaraner (spelling?) and he’s lovely, needs room to run, but she lives on a farm so it’s not an issue  Lovely dogs but really need a lot of exercise.

Want a Vizsla myself after watching that. We have quite a few in our village because a couple of people here breed them. Never cared for them, myself [not keen on the colour] until someone I knew bought one. He sadly died when he was only six, and his owner is still in mourning. He was a total legend in the village; everyone loved him. You can get wire haired ones as well, which have a slightly different temperament; I think they’re more laid back. Another lady here owned one; this dog lived to a ripe old age…the owner told me that they couldn’t have an arguement because the dog used to get so upset.

Sounds as though the wire haired variety is more prone to genetic problems due to inbreeding. Strange that the smooth coated ones love water so much, with them not having an undercoat..whippets are the same but hate water. In fact, they’re rather like big versions of whippets in a lot of ways, the main difference being that they retrieve [don’t ever ask a whippet to bring a ball back..they just look at you as if you’re mad]. I was rather surprised when people told me their Vizslas slept in the bed with them [not something that I’d recommend] but from what I’ve read it’s difficult to keep them out..again, like whippets they really feel the cold and all they want is a duvet, preferably with someone in it to snuggle up to. Again. like whippets they don’t seem to suffer from a lot of the genetic problems that other dogs have

I have 2 Vizsla’s (mother and daughter) – they are fantastic dogs.

I bred a litter last year – here is a video of one of them aged 5 months enjoying the horse treadmill with her 2 friends, a rottie & a doberman …..

I dont think this is right is it? The Vizsla is an Hungarian dog, whereas the Weimarana and German Pointer are both of German decent.
There have been many crosses between the Weim and Vizsla, which produces a dog very similar to the Vizsla but with a chocolate brown coat. I’ve only ever seen 1 and it was stunning, although they do seem a bit steep to me at around £750 for a cross breed.

    My other favourite doags are:
    Border Collie
    Doberman
    German Sheppard

My ancient Observer’s Book of Dogs says ‘Malinois ‘distrustful of strangers and most conscientious in it’s herding’.
