Mullins says Ruby’s injury seems to be the same as before.
Has Ruby rushed back too soon, without giving his bones enough time?
Value Is EverythingMarch 14, 2018 at 16:06 #1346496I doubt it. He would have received the best medical care and advice. He was fine last week at Thurles, and looked pretty good yesterday on Footpad and Benie. It looked one of those awkward falls that could have resulted in a broken leg regardless of whether he broke it before
March 14, 2018 at 16:06 #1346497The answer is No. For the simple reason that the doctor had to pass him fit.
March 14, 2018 at 16:08 #1346500No I don’t think so, in this day and age health and safety is always taken above anything else and if the doctors felt for one moment he wasn’t fit to return they wouldn’t have cleared him – the time he took to come back is within reasonable timescale.
It is just sods law that the horse landed on the exact same area where that previous break was, he had the fall yesterday and was perfectly fine – I think probably what doesn’t help is that he tries to stay on the horse for longer instead of bailing out like other jocks do, he did the exact same thing on Lets Dance when he originally broke the leg……to brave for his own good.
March 14, 2018 at 16:59 #1346511I think that the combination of almost no chase rides in the past 4 months plus the fact that he was riding tired horses at the end of Championship/G1 races didn’t make things easier for him.
But, I’m quite sure that he was fit to ride and so were his horses. If he has injured the same leg he injured in November, well it’s a 50% chance since he has only two of them.
Somehow I think that after this Festival there will be some changes taking place at Closutton.
Wouldn’t be surprised if Ruby would retire, the same might apply to Faugheen and probably Douvan and Mr. Ricci might also be going somewhere else…… You never know.
March 14, 2018 at 17:18 #1346513I’m with Ex Ruby Light, I think Ruby will call it quits now. He’ll be 39 in May, had an awful time (his family too) during recovery.
March 14, 2018 at 17:26 #1346516Apparently his wife was quite happy to finally have him out of the house.
March 14, 2018 at 17:52 #1346519Yes, he was technically “fit to ride” and passed by the Doc; but that doesn’t necessarily mean the bones have fully recovered.
Yes, he was fit enough to race ride and has had falls since coming back that didn’t break the leg. But that in itself doesn’t mean that when a particular fall put presure on the same particular joint – it breaks again.I agree, if the leg is weak Walsh may well be advised to retire.
Value Is EverythingMarch 14, 2018 at 17:53 #1346520The horse rolled onto him didn’t it?? I’d have thought that would break most people’s legs, weak or not?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!March 14, 2018 at 17:56 #1346523Why on earth would they retire douvan lol nonsense.. and where or what have you read that gives you any indication that ricci is on the way out, the stable has had how many winners in two days? Ricci himsef having a grade 1 winner and the 2nd in the CC behind a superstar, where his #1 fell on no fault to the jockey? Is that a “bad result” for any owner? Just utter speculation and the media spur this nonsense along aswell lol so after the cheltenham festival there just forgetting punchestown aswell then? No point is there…. LOL wth.
And ill be staggered if he retires off the back of that, unless the injury itself is career ending. No chance.
March 14, 2018 at 21:23 #1346565Ham, I was just wondering, if Mr. Ricci wouldn’t consider moving a part of his string to someone else.
I’m sure there are some boxes to be filled in the Henry De Bromhead or Jessica Harrington stables. What does Rich Ricci really want to win? The David Nicholson and the Dawn Run Mares’ Hurdles? Is that the reason he keeps buying all that expensive stock from France?
Willie Mullins is a great trainer, but it’s the Gold Cup and the Champion Chase he has yet to win. And maybe Mr. Ricci is becoming a bit impatient now and might try a change of scenery.
Oh, and let’s see how fit Douvan came out of the race today and where they want to go on from now. He had a pelvic injury already and today’s fall wasn’t a soft one either. I’d like to see what the vets say first, rather than listening to big-mouth Patrick.
March 14, 2018 at 21:44 #1346570If the horse cant win either of those races with willie mullins they wont win them with de bromhead or harrington.
Hes had bad luck regarding douvan, but what horse would have won either race under a different trainer?
Imo anyway.
March 15, 2018 at 08:00 #1346635Douvan retiring ???, thought he was taking the mickey out of the others with his stunning jumping until coming to grief.
March 15, 2018 at 14:59 #1346735So with Gigginstown winning the important races for various trainers, Rich Ricci will be happy to bag both Mares Races, right?
No thoughts of a change of scenery, yet.
March 15, 2018 at 15:14 #1346743Ruby you seem obsessed with Ricci moving elsewhere? Why?
March 15, 2018 at 15:21 #1346747Ruby Light you talking nonsence
March 15, 2018 at 15:23 #1346749I am always amazed that high profile owners have all their horses with one trainer, however good he is. Take it or leave it but i did hear from one owner whos here there and everywhere that Ricci is considered a bit high maintenance by mullins.
As for ownership, the Munir/isaacs model is one id follow myself. Could spread around as much and as generously as JP or act like Ryan (who could… vile little man)
