They got it pretty much correct on ‘The Morning Line’, yesterday, when they stated that if Rip Van Winkle was with any other yard, other than A O’Brien’s, then he would have been a lot bigger in the market.
October 19, 2008 at 17:29 #185409Only one outstanding 2yo of either sex this season, i’m sure most people would agree with that.
October 19, 2008 at 20:16 #185430Finjaan looked to edge ahead of the eventual winner to me, Ginge, only to be outstayed (very) late on. It would have taken a very brave steward, with balls of steel, to consider amending the result.
My point, halfwaytoheaven, is that all of the collateral form linking Mastercraftsman with the other ‘leading juveniles’ is beginning to look distinctly ordinary by classic standards (Lord Shanakil and Shaweel aren’t worth their respective ratings of 114 and 119 for me) and as such a runaway winner of the Dewhurst would have been welcomed.
Fair enough Equi
I still think Lord Shanakill is one of the most consistent 2yo’s of the season though. He’s been in the frame in almost every race he’s run this season whatever the distance/ground conditions. I think he’ll be a good horse to work your trendlines on for the new season
October 19, 2008 at 21:16 #185440A very muddling picture for the 2000 Gns.
Of the horses I’ve seen contesting the top 2-Y-O races this season MASTERCRAFTSMAN has impressed me the most.
He has had some hard races and had handled them very well until a poor draw and previous exertions cost him his chance at Longchamp.I like Jukebox Jury as well but think him a little bit off top class.
October 19, 2008 at 23:48 #185471I’d have Bushranger as top rated 2yo colt and certainly the fastest. Whether he’s a classic proposition stamina-wise is very debatable.

I stick to what I said before the Prix Morny, Bushranger will go on to win some very nice 6f races next year.
I dont think he’ll step up to a mile
October 20, 2008 at 00:37 #185476Neither do i, so unfortunately we have a boring winter of 2000G speculation with no potential star to look forward to a-la George W, Teofilo, New Approach.

I think it may all hang on how well Art Conosseiur comes back from injury. If he comes back fully fit with no niggling problems I think he’s a very nice bet for the 2000G.
Mr Bell stated that he hadnt run to his best at all since the Coventry Stakes (the last time Intense Focus actually seemed to run well before yesterday in all honesty – Lord Shanakill in 3rd again on that day) and that would probably explain his run in Ireland and the poor Gimcrack run too.
It’s all hope at this stage though. Fingers crossed for him and all connected

Nothing boring about the winter. Let’s all go jumping or point to pointing ( season starts 30th November) and forget about the flat.
October 20, 2008 at 02:52 #185486I wouldn’t give up on Mastercraftsman if the Guineas was run on fast ground. The only time he has had fast ground he put Art Connoisseur and Bushranger in their place which is just about the best 2yo colt performance of the season.
October 20, 2008 at 09:07 #185509Already achieved a 25-1 quote for Zacinto in the 2,000 Guineas. Quietly confident.
October 20, 2008 at 21:59 #185594Quite interesting that Bushranger will be campaigned over 1m this Saturday at Santa Anita in the Juvenille
If Bushranger wins this you’d have to think he’d shoot up to favourite in the 2000G
