I was incredibly impressed by Ashram last time, and have him to beat Rip Van Winkle and Delegator.
October 18, 2008 at 18:33 #185279Think it may favour those ridden prominently today, at least before jockeys get used to the following wind.
In that case it could favour Shaweel and Soul City. Though my main bet is still Huntdown.

Value Is EverythingOctober 18, 2008 at 18:42 #185281I’m normally a big backer of Jim Bolger’s yard (hence being impressed by Soul City’s last run) and Intense Focus seems to be coming back into the form that he showed at Ascot back at the royal meeting where finishing 2nd behind Art Coneisseur. I dont think Intense Focus will be good enough here for a place and may have been rushed back out slightly quick. Definitely one to watch for next season over 1m though.
Again, I fail

Collateral form, as dangerous as it is, is making the likes of Mastercraftsmen, Arazan and Naaqoos look more ‘average’ by the day.
A disappointing result.

Not really mate, Intense Focus has been behind Mastercraftsman twice this year over 7f
October 18, 2008 at 18:53 #185286Hello,
Not a disappointing result for me, Equi…

I thought the form highlighted that I/Focus had a chance, it certainly should not have been 25/1 this morning..

Unfortunately, I cannot yet judge if the "overall" form is just average, next year should inform us better..

October 18, 2008 at 18:59 #185287Call it good luck or whatever, but I pulled out having a bet on Rip Van Winkle. Probably because Aidan O’Brien said the colt did not have an ideal preparation, and allied to the fact that it drifted on course.
In other words, I chickened out. Thankfully for me, as it turned out.
That said however, I wasn’t totally disheartened – I thought the colt ran quite well, if a bit green. When he grows and fills out a bit during the winter, I am confident we”ll see a much improved performance on his return to Newmarket.
The course experience will augur well.
Well done to those who tipped Intense Focus.

October 18, 2008 at 19:03 #185288Nice pick Doyley,
Was it my imagination?
Do think they should have called a stewards enquiry?.Finjaan seemed to be bumped about 1 1/2 out, lost a bit of momentum and then fought back. Only lost by two noses. To my mind lost out by less than the ground he lost.
Not saying they should definately change the result but they should have looked in to it.
Believe it is sheikh Hamdan’s policy never to object.
Also, Manning will do well not to get a suspension. Again!

Value Is EverythingOctober 18, 2008 at 19:08 #185289Hello,
I fear Finjaan just failed to get the trip, ever so slightly, and tiredness may have caused some interference. Not only that I had the winner, but I feel it would be a shame to have such a magnificent finish queried by the officials. We need more finishes like that!!

Absolutely gutting. I cannot remember being as gutted as this, particularly as I don’t bet each way. **** knows why, because it would have saved me a fortune these past two pile of s**t years.
It will never be 25/1 again and now everyone knows how good this horse is. (Kings Stand, July Cup, Betfred, Abbaye would be my plan for next year).
You can be ahead of the market and unless you’re lucky, you still don’t collect. Horse racing is a game where the player is perpetually caught on the border between the eternal joy of Heaven and the burning fires of Hell. I know which side I’ve fallen tonight.
Believe it is sheikh Hamdan’s policy never to object.
This is true.
Well done Doyley.
October 18, 2008 at 22:39 #185314Rip Van Winkle was a massive eye catcher today – if he is still 7/1 for the 2000 Guineas I think that is a good price. He was not given a hard time and stayed on really well…next year we will see the real deal (bar any unforseen events)

October 18, 2008 at 23:21 #185319They all finished in a bit of a heap, don’t know that the form will amount to very much in respect of next year’s classics.

Finjaan looked to edge ahead of the eventual winner to me, Ginge, only to be outstayed (very) late on. It would have taken a very brave steward, with balls of steel, to consider amending the result.
My point, halfwaytoheaven, is that all of the collateral form linking Mastercraftsman with the other ‘leading juveniles’ is beginning to look distinctly ordinary by classic standards (Lord Shanakil and Shaweel aren’t worth their respective ratings of 114 and 119 for me) and as such a runaway winner of the Dewhurst would have been welcomed.
October 19, 2008 at 13:58 #185383Major apologies … duplicate post!
October 19, 2008 at 13:59 #185384I thought it was a poor Dewhurst. Nothing stood out really apart from Rip Van Winkle and Soul City … and both ran rotten races!
Rainbow View would’ve murdered that lot ^ ^
October 19, 2008 at 15:31 #185396Great race to watch but RVW was a disappointment but his form didn’t really suggest he was a superstar. A blanket finish indicates there was nothing out of the top drawer and the 2000 guineas looks wide open at the mo.
