Kingscote been shafted here, was beaten by the better horse on the day last time out.
Worked out well jocking off Marquand and Kirby for Dettori in the Derby didn’t it?
Hopefully Bay Bridge runs and wins with RK on
June 10, 2023 at 07:52 #1651062I don’t think any desire to see Desert Crown beat is anti-Dettori sentiment.
More anti-owners and anti gutless explanations that insult the intelligence.
Of course, owners can do as they please and don’t have to justify it – but that won’t stop onlookers having an opinion on it.
I was at Sandown Park and it was another safety first ride.
Held up, brought wide of the entire (admittedly small) field to challenge so saw a lot of daylight, led well over a furlong out, presumably in the hope he had at least 7lb in hand and would just forge further clear from there.
But he hadn’t so he didn’t – and he got done close home.
I don’t actually think he won a particularly good Derby and in the paddock he didn’t strike me as having developed much physically from three to four either.
Hukum, an absolute beast of an animal admittedly, made him look like a greyhound.
Anything’s possible, but I wouldn’t bank on Desert Crown turning out much better this year than he looked at Sandown Park.

That is a good reason to replace Kingscote with Dettori. How many top sportsmen reached the pinnacle by playing it safe all the time?
I recognise the communication has been poor but I think the decision is entirely acceptable.
I recognise you have not said so ID but there are other posters here and elsewhere criticising Stoute for being disloyal.
I think that is rubbish. Saeed Suhail has given Stoute two Derby winners and a lot of other good horses. He has been far more important to his career than Kingscote ever has been. The idea he would stand up against perhaps his most important owner for a jockey who is not even his first choice rider is ridiculous.
It is a tough game sometimes. I suspect Kingscote is long enough in the tooth to know it. I doubt he will be making much fuss. He knows his chances of getting on a future Group 1 winner for anyone other than Stoute are minuscule.
June 10, 2023 at 09:00 #1651068One of the many reasons why I don’t envy the Stoutes or O’Briens of this world is that, for all the wealth they’ve no doubt accumulated themselves over the years, they are ultimately subservient to their biggest owners.
I don’t see that Stoute had a lot of choice tbh – the owner wants another jockey, the owner gets another jockey.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"June 10, 2023 at 09:04 #1651070That sums it up, ID.
I remember when Norman Williamson got jocked off Looks Like Trouble by Richard Johnson at the owner’s behest. When Noel Chance was asked about it, he replied “No jockey ever put horses into my yard”.
June 11, 2023 at 06:53 #1651178Kieren Fallon, who twice rode Derby winners for Stoute – Kris Kin and North Light – expressed sympathy for Kingscote.
He said: “It’s not that Frankie is riding any better than Richard Kingscote, but I think Frankie is on the crest of a wave at the moment and is picking his mounts very wisely. It’s a tough call.
I thought Richard rode a lovely race on Desert Crown at Sandown, but it’s happened to me before. Frankie jocked me off a horse I rode in the Derby next time when he ran at Royal Ascot.
I don’t think this was Sir Michael’s choice, it was the owners, and if I were Richard Kingscote I would be very, very disappointed. It just goes to show what this game can do to you.
As many times as I messed up for Sir Michael, it’s not his style to change jockeys like this. If Ryan Moore was getting the mount I wouldn’t comment as he’s the best rider in the world and is part of the team at Freemason Lodge. If Frankie jocked me off at this stage of his career I’d be gutted, but that’s nothing against Frankie.”
June 11, 2023 at 14:47 #1651227Kingscote must have a wry smile on his face with the news that Desert Crown is out of Royal Ascot
June 11, 2023 at 14:49 #1651229I’d like to think jockeys had more class over things like a horse being lame

June 11, 2023 at 15:05 #1651231There’s been a lot of chatter about this over the last 24 hours. It’s a real shame that he’s out, but not the biggest shock
June 11, 2023 at 16:53 #1651242Desert Crown gave a Kingscote a Derby winner and the fact it’s missing the race doesn’t alter the fact he got jocked off it.
I doubt if Kingscote is smiling tbh.
