If Nick Mordin want’s tens against DC winning the next three Champion Hurdles, I suspect that several bookies will be glad to have their arms bitten off.
I could do better than that by taking the 4/1 available now, and letting the proceeds ride on the following year’s anti-post markets.
Muppet.
November 18, 2006 at 00:19 #31292These methods [Racing Post form and time] have been tried and tested over many years and are very similar to those used by Timeform.
Not true. But, as you say, let’s not get dragged into this whole debate yet again…
November 18, 2006 at 19:48 #31293Don’t forget Mordin was lauding DC to the sky’s before the Triumph, and in the Triumph, long before this Greatwood H’cap.
This was what he had to say about DC, after his Triumph triumph:
"When he won at Sandown Detroit City ran a near impossible 1.7 seconds faster than Champion Hurdle candidates managed in the Agfa Hurdle over the same course and distance later on the card. This time he did something similar, running an amazing 1.5 seconds faster than the County Hurdle. In fact he actually broke the course record, an incredible feat for a juvenile."
November 19, 2006 at 20:49 #31294Thanks for that, Grimes. There is no way I would have spotted it otherwise.
November 19, 2006 at 22:33 #31295Don’t mention it.
November 19, 2006 at 22:45 #31296I just have. Sorry.
November 22, 2006 at 16:03 #30704detroit city has been given a rating of 165. he is now the highest rated british 2 mile hurdler but a few lb below brave inca and macs joy
November 22, 2006 at 19:29 #30705i hope your wrong because i have baacked him for champion, and he is on my 10 to follow. i really want the horse to be as good as he looked, but i cant help feel people are getting carried away with his performance in the greatwood. if he does the same at cheltenham in december i will be happy, but we will just have to wait and see. he will prob go off a short priced favourite so a potential lay?

November 23, 2006 at 00:23 #307082. I wondered that at the time. But could he have started his finishing kick much earlier? I believe I remember a commentator saying after one of his races, "Look, he’s full of running. He could go round again."
November 24, 2006 at 08:11 #30709Re point 2, I seem to remember RJ saying in the interview after the race something along the lines of "I never really felt like I was getting to the bottom of him", presumably meaning he could have won by further if he had wanted to
November 24, 2006 at 10:18 #307101. If that was true, then lets see a few more beasts try the same tactic. Its underused, if its that easy. Weve all seen races pinched and that has usually been where the other runners have simply been caught out (sometimes happens at sandown this) by underestimating how much scope they have to claw back the leader. Didnt feel this was the case here at all, he had them all off the bridle a fair way out…far enough for a challenge to be made
But may have to wtach race again :)
Even so DC has proved he doesnt have to run this way. The very best horses seem to be able to win how they please….
November 24, 2006 at 12:16 #30711"Look, he’s full of running. He could go round again."
Was this Thommo by any chance? Whenever watching Channel 4’s coverage, there isn’t a race that goes by that, if in the vicinity, Thommo won’t rattle this one off. That is, if he’s recovered from "Who’s gonna win?"

just watched replay on RUK
looked to be getting tired, but still only kept going via hands and heels – maybe add a couple of lengths to winning margin imhaho
November 24, 2006 at 19:04 #30713Interesting stuff, lads.
Whatever DC does or doesn’t go on to do, I think you’ve got a point about the very best horses being able to win however they like.
Can’t remember, aphardy. Maybe it was Thommo.
It’s strange how some horses keep pulling out more and more under hard driving from the jockey from miles out. In fact, will only do so under such driving!
November 29, 2006 at 11:11 #30714just been looking at the triumph hurdle form. 6 of the first 7 home in last years triumph have won races this season. it seems to me that last seasons triumph was the strongest for years. this must be a positive for detroit city
