    Daylight Cup 2010 News
First, we are hopeful that the Draws for this years knockout stages will have a certain TRF celebrity feel to them this year as a number of TRF’s more respected member have been asked to conduct the Draws. At present we are very pleased to announce that Rory, TRF’s very own ‘Walking Horseracing Enclopedia’ and Timeform Radio’s Form and Betting Expert has kindly agreed to do the draw for the Quarter Finals. As always the draws will take place the Chatroom and I’m hoping to make a further announcement on this soon – watch this space.

We are also pleased to announce that in addition to the honour and prestige that accompanies winning the Daylight Cup the winner will also receive a special commemoration ‘Competition Book’ to accompany the actual trophy itself which shall detail all of the matches and their road to victory.

A Few Highlights from the Group Stages
As we approach Week 5 and the halfway point of the Group Stages the competition in all of the Groups is beginning to warm up nicely. However, there are no less than 10 players who are currently blazing an early trail and remain unbeaten. Remarkably, two of those players, Tetleys and Slater are in the same group (Group 16) and this week’s match between them looks to be an exciting affair as both attempt to maintain their unbeaten runs. Others to note are Jim JTS, who clearly knows the ‘time of day’ when it comes selecting winners and currently sits with 4 wins from 4 matches having amassed 126 points. However, with Jim JTS having a rest week in Week 5 the other players in Group 3 will be hoping to cut into his early lead, none more so than 2008 winner Aaronizneez who is currently in second place.

In Group 14 The Young Fella has taken a very tough looking group by storm and also sits proudly on top with 4 wins from 4 matches and is currently the competitions leading scorer having bagged 157 points in the last 4 weeks, can the other, older and well respected players in Group 14 peg him back? However, the main talking point from this group being discussed at dinner parties up and down the country and also with Ladies that Lunch is; will Ken (West Derby) win a match this year? Tipped before this year’s competition to do well Ken has unfortunately got off to a poor start however with plenty of points to still play for don’t be surprised to see Ken finishing strongly in the second half of the Group Stages – stick with it Ken.

In Group 10, a potential ‘group of death’ only Elcartero has show any consistence with 3 wins from 4 matches however, should he peek over his shoulder he’ll see four players all lined up behind him on 6 points and with Kingmonkey who currently has only 3 points almost certain to start picking up some big scores this could go all the way to the wire with the other strong players in this group, John Williams, Citygirl and Cormack15 fighting it out to the finish along with Elcartero and Kingmonkey.

In Group 2, Week 4 saw Craig maintain his unbeaten run with a 35 – 12 defeat of Crizzy who himself was on a two match unbeaten run. However, this also looks a very tough group with previous Cup winner Bob ‘Bomber’ Rolf and two times winner of Bob’s 4PP, Steve H along with Bampi sure to put up a good showing. Can Craig keep the winning run going or will the big guns have him in their sights before long?

In Group 11, Paulostermeyer appears to have ‘refused to race’ and with just three points covering the other five players an exciting finish to this group is anticipated. A special mention should go to Andrew Saunders who is perhaps the unluckiest player in this year’s competition thus far, for having amassed a very impressive 117 points but has also conceded 119 points.

Over the coming weeks I shall be taking a closer look at the remaining groups not mentioned in this brief update. With plenty of points still up for grabs good luck to all over the coming weeks.

Finally, as always a special mention to Bob for all his hard work in running the 4PP competition, that we all enjoy so much, for providing the scores for this competition – many thanks.

Publicly shamed and embarrassed that I am, I have a cunning plan to streak to the top of the quagmire. I propose to rise at the crack of dawn, get over to the gallops at Warren Hill and as each string passes by I will be asking the stable staff for tips for Saturday.
    You ain’t seen nothing yet!

I am, of course, open to bribes.

Rory, has that Corinthian spirit deserted you…..? It’s not the winning that’s important….
It was always my intention to come bottom of my group in order to let others have their day in the sun. I seek no plaudits or fame, being content with spreading a little happiness amongst my fellow brethren, especially those like The Young Fella who have few moments of joy in their lives.
My reward is in sharing my God-given talent to appear to be a loser.

After the last four weeks I’m not sure I qualify for that any more, Ken!

But how will this precocious young colt fare as they face the ‘second circuit’? Any signs of greenness could be fatal!

Nobbled, yet again. Stuck fast in the starting stalls. Is there no end to this pain and despair. I feel like Tiger Woods’ privates – resigned to a life of restrained anticipation.

Maybe that’s the secret Ken – a gelding op and cheekpieces

I see that the top of the table clash that CC2010 was on about in Group 15 between unbeaten Tetleys and Slater finished in a draw 22-22

Sounds as exciting as yesterday’s pulsating Man.City vs. Liverpool match; that also ended in a draw.

Ken plays down his chances, puts us all off having a bet on him then deprives The Young Fella his moment of joy in the recent Daylight cup round 17-0.

    Where’s the stewards?

I now know what it must feel like to be trained by Mr. Henderson. In the doldrums all season, slowly coming down the handicap and appearing to be past my prime.
Then, cometh the hour, cometh the horse. A few chosen antibiotics, some discreetly placed bets and I’m away and gone, pulverising the opposition into the ground.
With apologies to The Young Fella for taking your ground at the last but my generosity to sad causes has its limits. At least you’ll live to fight another day whereas all I have to look forward to is a bunch of carrots and the reputation of being a one-hit wonder who once lowered the colours of a true champion.
