Some interesting views on forum from across the water.
Haye used his superior quickness to surprise Nikolai Valuev, winning a majority decision on Saturday night and winning the WBA heavyweight title.
The British challenger came close to knocking down Valuev for the first time in his 16-year pro career during the final round, but had to settle for the decision. The scores were 116-112 on two of the judges’ cards, and a 114-114 draw on the other.
“The key was my speed,” Haye said. “People don’t realize I am very fast. And I have a powerful punch. I’m athletic, and if I wasn’t a boxer I would be playing football or rugby.”
The former cruiserweight titleholder won his third fight at heavyweight, despite giving up nearly a foot and 100 pounds to the tallest and heaviest champion in history.
“Everybody thought I was crazy,” Haye said, “but I knew I could make him miss.”
Haye had spent months taunting fellow heavyweight champions Wladimir and Vitali Klitschko, and even embarked on a press tour to promote a fight against Wladimir Klitschko before it was called off. Now, he’ll probably escape facing the two men considered the best in the division because his first defense of the WBA title is supposed to be against John Ruiz.
The former titleholder earned the shot by stopping Adnan Serin in the seventh round earlier in the night—and already Haye is offering another prediction.
“He’s a good fighter who is very underrated,” Haye said of the American. “He is not the most spectacular, but I don’t feel like I will struggle with him. He’s about the same size as me and I think I will knock him out.”
Valuev dropped to 50-2, and admitted that Haye was too quick for him.
“Tonight only one thing happened that I didn’t expect,” Valuev said. “It was like a marathon for me. It was like a track event. I wasn’t ready to run that much.
“The judges made their scoring and I think the last round made the difference, especially the end of it.”
Haye tried to keep Valuev on the move, opening with a left to the Russian’s chin followed by a powerful combo. Valuev struggled to catch Haye, finding him only with left jabs.
Haye said he injured his right hand hitting Valuev in the head, likely in the second round.
“It was like punching a brick wall,” Haye said.
Nicknamed “The Hayemaker,” the Brit connected with big rights and lefts to Valuev’s head to build up his points lead. Valuev finally came alive beginning in the fourth round, but in the sixth Haye landed a right-left combo and two solid lefts.
Haye continued to make Valuev work while finding holes, including a strong right followed by a left to Valuev’s face in the ninth. After another big right in the 10th, Haye wrapped up the fight by landing two left hooks that left Valuev wobbly in the 12th.
StumbleUponYes! Mr. FLEX I totally 1000 percent, do agree with your post at number # 140.. What you wrote is something. That i have for a very long time now, have tried to clearly and factually point out.. Which is that both of those overrated big stiffs, KLITSCHKO Brothers ( especially WLADAMIRE ).. Is very overrated and Mediocre talented at best!.. The only reason that those two big mediocre stiffs. ( KLITSCHKO, s ).. Has been on top of their division.. Is factually and only because of the very pathetic and sad state. Of the sorry arse Heavyweight division… The today,s Heavyweight division, is truly 95 percent, Over-stuffed!. Full of a bunch of Slow, Mostly Fat, Weak, Talentless, Pludding Stumb – Bums!.. If either VITALI or WLADAMIRE would have been around at any other time in Heavyweight boxing history.. Neither of them would have ever ranked any higher than number 10 or 11th.. Add that to the fact that WLADAMIRE has been proven to have a almost Glass chin.. And Once a fighter does start getting to VITALI. ( He finds a way to Quit!.. I totally give the truly very Talented, Quick, Hard – Hitting DAVID HAYE.. A very Quick, Manuverable, Aggressive Hard – Hitting talent!… That i give a very good chance to beat, either of those overrated KLITSCHKO, s.. ( again especially WLADAMIRE )…….. Peace!…

I really know very little about David Haye but, SCORE ONE FOR THE REGULAR SIZE GUYS!!! Somebody toss Valuev a basketball, wouldya? 7’2"??? I’m guessing he won most of the bouts he did win on sheer size advantage alone!! I’ll keep saying it ’til somebody believes me: Boxing needs a superheavyweight division! That way, no-talent big dudes can fight other no-talents big dudes, while those of us who enjoy REAL boxing can actually see entertaining HEAVYWEIGHT fights instead of either constanly watching David vs Goliath or being witnesses to an event that promoters shamelessly call "BOXING" when it really looks like two dinosaurs struggling to get out of a tarpit!!! LOL!!

My Respect to the Klitschko brothers. It’s time they retired though. We need heavy weights that are willing to put everything on the line. Arreola brings a good show. Even if he is crying about loosing, he puts a good show. They should put a Haye Vs Arreola fight. I personally like watching boxing at all levels and different styles. The problem with boxing is that people are forgetting that it is entertainment. Boxers that run all the time are just not fun to watch.

I think fighters rely too much on a hype machine known as a promoter. The promoters can control a division if they have mpre than two or three fighters in the same division.
THe heavyweight division is like stagnet swamp water, nothing changes or moves and the same fighters keep getting title shots.
The heavyweight division is now the cruiserweight division of old we know it is a weight class but noone cares about the watching the fights or even know who the fighters sre.
We need some fresh exciting fighters to come along like the young Tyson, Riddick Bowe , Holyfield and even Lennox Lewis.
I think the heavies are now the forgotten division now controlled by European fighters.
David Haye is brash and@#$%y but he is the recepient of a sideshow division. I look forward to the days when the Klitchko’s no longer hold the belts.
Hopefully Haye will give Arreola or even Kevin Johnson a match, please , please let Ruiz, Holyfieldm Sam Peter and Hasim Rahman stop polluting the fresh new water we are hopefully in store for amd a new birth to the Heavyweight division.

Haye is a Hype job. Valuev Lost every defense he made but was given gift decsions. Even Holyfield beat him and Holyfield collects Social Security. Any good Heavyweight will knock him out. Arreloa,Tua the Klitschko brothers would knock this clown out. Yes Flex the Klitschko would be heavyweight Champs in the 70,s Ali wouldn’t beat Vitali by running for 15 rounds unless there are bias judges

i’ve always said that haye would beat the golly green giant n now he gets the wba favorite chump n don king heavyweight john ruiz who barely beat evander 4 that belt years ago but he keeps gettin shots he doesn’t deserve but haye will stop him in 8 rounds then onto the klitckho brothers cause haye can beat either one. what would be a good match would b haye vs holyfield 2 undersize, underappricated, cruiers who went on to b heavyweight champs

u klitscho fans are on drugs. both are mediocre at best. post# 135 is so delusional he actually thinks they could have been champs in the 70’s. now that’s nuts. the heavyweight division has never been weaker than it is right now. ppl like don king and now oscar dela hoya have prostituted and shaded the game to the point that if there were any potential fighters out there, they already feel that they can’t get a fair shake if they are not in the favored camp. BOXING IS DEAD!!!!!! I actually fault SUGAR RAY LEONARD for starting the whole "Retire and pick a fight you can’t lose, use your name to get a title shot without fighting any top 10 contenders and steal a belt,(or in his case several) retire again and claim your fame." The whole thing stinks like a bag of rotten monkey nuts. Post # 115 you should know better than to try and make rational points while talking to ppl who actually think the klitschos can fight.

Please leave President Obama out of this, why classify him as a lightweight when you can not be called a flyweight. If it is easy then try to be a lightweight president and lets see how you will fare.

Please leave President Obama out of this, if you feel he is a lightweight then try to contest and lets see if you will even achieve being a flyweight.

Valuev is old, and has slowed down. Haye is a big-mouthed hack. And from my point of view, Valuev actually won this fight. But my scoring doesn’t count. Next time, Valuev will beat Haye if there is a rematch.
That said, Valuev is better off ending his career at this point. Either Klitchko would have hurt him badly. Not only can either Klitchko also beat Haye (and I hope each gets a chance to), they would have dominated the heavyweights of the 1970’s also. They are that good. But I digress…

The heavyweight division is sorry. Its been in a tail spin ever since Mike Tyson feel off.
David Haye? Please? He is a show, with that tap, tap @#$%. There are no real heavyweights willing to mix it up and take your head off. They sure have gotten sorry, and these guys cry from getting a cut.
Jack Dempsey would have taken Haye head on, of course Haye is stronger than a Dempsey. Kevin Rooney was right about the talispinning heavyweight division. No one really came out of the Olymic boxing team.WTF!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

I didn’t know we were being graded #128… And sorry, i’m not 80…I really don’t know what hooked on phonics is but now-a-days we use spell check if thats what "hooked on phonics" does, i’m assuming. But I’ll be sure and turn spell check on next time "Dad"…Last bit of advice… Stick to the topic or work on your old school comebacks. They might of worked in 1980 but times change.

It’s really ridiculous that every body is talking about past fighter like they’re going to come back and fight today. Please leave the past to the past and let’s get back to the present time in reality. Let’s see I think Haye did what he had to do with a fighter that is ready to retire, and for the Klitchkos, well we’ll see about that when the time comes; but here’s the thing about Ruiz did’nt David Tua knock him out in something seconds? If Haye wants to fight someone yes either fight Holyfield or fight David Tua who everyone even the Klitchkos do not want to fight. I mean even Lennox Lewis ran from Tua when they fought and did’nt want to give Tua a rematch. Put this way Tua has not been knocked down or out by anyone yet and he’s fought guys like Ibeabuchi who was on steroids when he fought Tua and still could’nt knock him out.(Tua sent him to the hospital afterwards) Just a thought peoplessss….

@127 Chinese Food Fan
Defence? HOLYFIED? Man and they call boxers "punchy". Man you need to invest in hooked on phonics ASAP! Maybe save some of that money on Chinese food for English lessons.HOLYFIED as you call him would end up like Apollo in Rocky 4 if he fought Hayes.

Haye….. Forget RUIZ for your first Title Defence….Fight the TRUE WBA Champion now…. We all know he won the belt months ago…
HOLYFIED ! ! !

Haye took the cheap and easy way to a belt. This belt means nothing. Beating Valuev and then defending against John Ruiz. So freaking what. Both Klitschko’s would demolish Haye.

Vitali Klitschko will be defeated in 12 rounds versus Haye. Vitali did have a chance against Lewis, but he woke the lion before he had a chance to slay him. Lewis ripped his face open and would have continued to rip his head off! Now back to Haye. The man is too fast for Vitali no matter how slow Valuev was to begin with. Arreola had a fighting chance but he tried taking punches to the face. Not good defense. Haye will bob and weave, duck and jab Vitali to victory. Wladimir is a different story. That fight will be a boring tactical jab fest won by the boxer who makes the least mistakes. Kinda like the Mayweather – Marquez fight. Haye is good but Arreola would be better if he was in the same condition. I’ve never seen Haye take a knockout punch and still stand on his feet. These two will fight in due time, after the Klitschko brothers are defeated.

well done haye, why are people talking about tyson, he retired years ago, haye is going to destroy ruiz, we should get behind haye cause he is better than any of the heavyweights we have, and more enjoyble to watch than the eastern europeans

Lewis beat Tyson when Tyson was already washed up. The same way that Trevor Berbick beat Ali. Does that make Berbick a great fighter? Was Lewis a great fighter. Hell no. He was a good boxer and that’s it.Get with it kids. There are re-runs on ESPN of all these REAL heavyweights over the past 40 years. Watch and learn. Tyson was the best boxer and the stupidest man and Ali was the smartest boxer and smartest man.
Nobody would or did hold up to Tyson before he went to jail. Nobody. He had people pissing in their panties before they went in the ring for a visit to unconscious-land. He had more two handed power than any boxer who ever lived when he was in his prime. And a brain, unfortunately, the size of an M&M.

Haye’s chin isn’t exactly granite, he’s been on the floor against cruisers.
