Yikes!!! Pipped by the Maestro himself  …where you been Rob?

I’ve been chasing round the office trying to find a computer that works. Mine conked out yesterday and is off to our IT department, now using one in an open office which doesn’t give quite so much scope for getting in the forum.

I was pretty sure that Stockbridge wasn’t covered by Chris Pitt, so it would have to have closed before 1900. A quick bit of Googling found plenty of references, the course seems well documented on the net.

I keep ‘Long Time Gone’ handy, and if I’m near the site of an old racecourse I’ll have a look to see if I can find a trace of it. Went past Lanark a while back and the big old Tote indicator building is still standing.

Rob, if you find yourself in the Samford area of Lincolnshire, you will find that there is evidence of their course still in existience. You can find it if you take the minor road off the roundabout near Burghley house. The grandstand still exists and I have seen a map of the course which shows a straight mile.

Thanks Bob, I live fairly close to Stamford and I shall go and have look.

I expect most of you know that Lincoln Council want to re-open the old Lincoln course by 2013 I believe with a view to bringing the Lincoln Handicap back. The old grandstand is still intact and so is most of the course. However, at the moment part of the A15 runs right through the middle of the course which may be a drawback!
