I’m sure Mysilv ran in the Champion & Stayers Hurdle at the same festival…..1996 and was 2nd in the latter behind Cyborgo.
January 8, 2022 at 16:34 #1577141Brown Lad won the stayers hurdle in an absolute canter in 75, and was then due to run in the 3-mile novice chase the next day, only for the meeting to be abandoned after Ten Up’s Gold Cup. The first day had also been abandoned that year.
January 8, 2022 at 16:41 #1577143Has anyone won on their second run at the same Cheltenham Festival since Sound Reveille in 95 though?
Value Is EverythingJanuary 10, 2022 at 12:19 #1577366Looking at the result, Rhyme “N” Reason would have still won under the revised weights. Of course you wouldn’t know that at the time.
Anyone remember a similar “fiddle” in the Ces involving a Kim Brassey horse and another trained by his former assistant Willie Muir? Don’t remember the exact details but Destroyer may have been one of the horses.
January 10, 2022 at 23:41 #1577462I thought that Elsworth was a truly great dual purpose trainer.
However , (I know that this will be unpopular) , there seemed to be a number of articles in the press back in the day that , he and Burridge , may have “arranged” comparing Desert Orchid to Arkle.
Just a personal opinion , but I found those irksome.January 10, 2022 at 23:55 #1577464GT, Our Armageddon won the final running of the Cathcart on his second start at the Cheltenham Festival in 2004, so there’s one at least!
January 11, 2022 at 00:18 #1577470Ah yes Marlingford, Pipe horse I do believe.
Value Is EverythingJanuary 11, 2022 at 02:13 #1577474Richard Guest GT. Knew it wasn’t Pipe, but had to look him up.
January 11, 2022 at 17:44 #1577548Of course it was.
I was thinking it was Johnson owned but may be in my mind confusing Vic with Armageddon. Doh.
