What is going on at the David Arbuthnot stable?
After a very good 2010-11 season on the jumps and good 2010 on the flat the form of the stable and his runners have been in free-fall.
I noticed it first last season and it does not appear to be getting a lot better for him. Last year he had 3/50/6% on the flat and 6/54/11% over the jumps.
This year so far he has saddled 0/25 jumps and 1/19/5% on the flat in 2012.
Shuil Royale appears a shining light for him at the moment but have to wonder whether he can fulfil his potential as it is and would be better placed elsewhere.
It has been a real shame watching Toploski in terminal decline as he once promised so much, The Strawberry One is another of his better horses that has declined rapidly, you have to wonder what the future holds for Starluck. Yesyoucan was sold on for just 6k and look what Ellison has done with him since.

There was interest in his Strollawaynow at Plumpton today (14s in to 5s I believe) but that one didn’t run too well either.
Top Ville has transferred to David Pipe and runs tomorrow having finished second twice last year.December 4, 2012 at 14:47 #421621Wind seemed to have been knocked out of his sails by the reduction of the now late George Ward’s racing interests last year, Arbuthnot having been his main trainer since 2007.
That said, though, it’s not as if he hasn’t had quality (actual or potential) to work with in the 17 months he’s been installed as Andrew Wates’s paid trainer at Beare Green.
“Surrey’s going to be a bit of a change from the Lambourn Downs but training’s training; you’ve just got to work out where you’ve got to train and what you’ve got to train.”
…Arbuthnot told the
Telegraph
at the time of his appointment. Nearly a year and a half on, he’s just not worked out that where and what quite as quickly as Alan Fleming had before him.

There’s also a possibility of a virus. David isn’t the only one with a less than normal strike Rate. Emma Lavelle usually has an outstanding record in November; far from it this year. Don’t write Emma or David off, am sure they’ll be back.
Value Is EverythingDecember 4, 2012 at 15:53 #421629How many horses has Wates got? Never appeared to have many more than 6-10?
Whay happened to Ward’s breeding interest – Shuil Ar Aghaidh and her daughters?

I agree.
I’m not sure that the Hobbs, Ellison and Ferguson yards are in the best of form either.December 5, 2012 at 10:58 #421709Emma Lavelle has certainly not had her usual start but plenty are running ok with out winning, Hobbs is finding form lately, the latter half of November he had plenty of winner and has still had around a 15% s/r in October and November.
It can’t be easy moving yards granted but more alarming at Arbuthnots is that many of the horses are running terribly out of form which is worrying, as you say Ginger there could be a virus which is what was at the forethought of my mind. Without Shuil Royale holding up some form at the moment it would be a very dire story indeed. Only 6 horses have to an RPR above 100 in 2012 and that includes Topolski (108) and The Strawberry One (103) who at best have run to 148 and 129 respectively.
I hope for his sake he can turn it around but I thinking the signs are particularly bleak.
