I didn’t back him today couldn’t being such short odds on favourite when failed to complete in two previous runs. In February the said they were going to do his wind
Today stewards reports states he was pulled up breathing issue again.
So is he one those horses that’s been overhyped. Or maybe could that heavy fall he had in race after he beat Altior have affected him mentally, it’s abit like the might bite scenario?

You may be right Paul Nicholas has said this

Cyrname was left in second when Shan Blue fell but was pulled up by Harry Cobden before the last with a breathing problem that may force him into retirement.

Trainer Paul Nicholls said: “He choked again. It’s been an issue all his career and we got away with it for a little while. It’s a nightmare really because there isn’t too much more we can do.

“If he was going to run again the only option would be on an easy track, or we could gracefully retire him. They won’t want to go on seeing him run like that, so it’s a decision we’ve got to make in the next few days. If they can’t breathe you’re in trouble.”

The issue isn’t his wind its his brain

Hes always been a nutter but put in a couple of genuinely top class performances in the ascot betfair chase and to beat altior

You cant argue with the form of those races

He walloped politologue, waiting patiently and fox Norton by 17 lengths

Then beat altior when he was still the real altior

That race on that bad ground finished off them both id say

Fair play to Paul nicholls for actually getting this nutjob to put it all together a few times.

Soundness of mind is often linked to soundness of body. Can’t or won’t give its all if struggling to breath. If a breathing op’ is 100% successful the horse can show what it can do, but unfortunately that is often only for a limited period. Not the horse’s fault and we must enjoy the good days while they last. Was Cyrname a “great”? Well, greatness only came at one track – Ascot – and in only three performances between 19th January and 23rd November 2019… Suppose I never really took to him because of that… But yes I believe Cyrname was a great, because if those three quality performances had come at Cheltenham over three different years – I don’t think anyone would disagree. Not all horses have to show their greatness at Cheltenham or over a long time frame.

Hope connections make the right decision on his future. :good:

Cyrname didn’t beat a A1 Altior , Altior wasn’t right that day as everyone in the paddock said looking at him after , he was never the top chaser , never performed at Cheltenham ….he was the Jimmy white of the jumps game

Hopefully they will Gingertipster, he never really took to him either but it doesn’t mean we still don’t like the ones we don’t follow as our favorites
The cheer he got after his fall that time and walking back dazed but ok with Paul Nichols walking down back to stables with him. Shows that us racing fans feel for all the horses and care for there wellbeing just like there connections
I’m sure Paul Nichols will do right by him

I agree HDLG, Altior wasn’t at his best – Altior is the better racehorse – but Cyrname’s performance was imo still exceptional that day. :good:

How on earth can they raise him 5lbs? He never finished the race – if someone can give me a explanation as why this is possible, I’d like to know. You should only rate on known facts, not guessing…..

Three top class performances at one track is too small a sample size to class him as a great.

Obviously depends on how you categorise “great”, Andy.
For some the number of races won constitutes greatness which is fair enough.

For me the standard / “greatness” of performance is what makes greatness. Because it just seems wrong to me that a “great” could run to its very best and yet still get beaten by a non-great.

No idea why so many delight in knocking this horse. If the BHA rating was too exalted that’s another thing. I think most would accept he hasn’t been a betting proposition for quite a while unless you want to chance a few bob on him being in optimum shape. I’m happy to remember the odd scintillating performance when he showed how good he could be.
If they peresevere I hope it’s at a shorter distance back right handed.

Is the mis-spelling of the horse’s name in the title of this thread deliberate?
