Can anything beat..
NATIVE TRAIL 2/5favWho do you think will come 2nd and if he does win the Craven can he beat ‘the curse’ that is that only one horse since 2004 (Haafhd) has won both races.
I think he can do it.
He’s yet to get the mile but he’s shown that he can act on the course and all the vibes from the Appleby yard are that he’s wintered well and is fit and ready to go..NOW, so roll on Wednesday.
JacThings turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...April 11, 2022 at 00:14 #1592899It suppose it will be interesting to see if Ballydoyle send anything to get a ‘gauge’ on Native Trail, but he will not be opposable or backable in this for me.
I’m not one for taking connections quotes on board too much, but its fair to say he is certainly the apple of Charlie Applebys eye.
I can’t think of many (any?) Craven favourites going off this short.

April 11, 2022 at 07:22 #1592946Come on Native strut your stuff
April 11, 2022 at 07:32 #1592947I see no reason why Native Trail would he beaten except….my 40 years watching racing.
I’ve seen colts who looked even more invincible at two, with even more imposing physiques, fail to train on.
If we look at the weight-for-age scale in October, how much a 2yo gets from a 4yo over 7f, then see how much a 3yo gets from a 4yo over 1m in April, we see how much the average 2yo/3yo improves during that time.
That’s a mean average – and there are enormous fluctuations among individual horses within that mean.
Some will improve that amount, some more, but some not at all.
There are safer 2/5 bets than a 3yo first time out.
But, yes, all the portents are good.
Best 2yo, already proven at the track, imposing sort who should be even better at three.
I’ve got 5/1 and 7/2 about him ante-post for the 2,000 Guineas, though not to life-changing amounts, and I’ve not backed anything else in the race so far as I cannot see beyond him.
I’ll be rooting for him on Wednesday, he ought to win and win well, but 2/5 is not for me.

IIRC Tromos was shorter.
I saw his debut, third to Indian Brave over 6f last race on St Leger Day at Doncaster in 1978.
He then won the Clarence House Stakes at Ascot over 6f by ten lengths and the Dewhurst in an astonishing time, making all.
He was bizarrely held up by Kipper Lynch on his return in the Craven, ran a lifeless race, and the bubble was burst.
The high….
The low….

Native Trail 17lb clear on OR, but his rivals include three unexposed, once-raced, Maiden winners.

April 13, 2022 at 12:57 #1593403I hope you’re right, Nathan, I’ve got 5/1 and 7/2 for the 2,000 Guineas, though to somewhat less than life-changing amounts.
He ought to win easily, but the wfa scale says they’ve all improved an average of 8lb since the Dewhurst and there will be a lot of fluctuations within that average.
Some might have improved by more, others may not have improved at all.
Fingers crossed.

Appleby has had plenty of winners so far this season so should know where Native Trail stands in the grand scheme of things.Gaelic Warrior Gold Cup Winner 2026
April 13, 2022 at 15:37 #1593433Never in doubt.
April 13, 2022 at 15:39 #1593434Good performance. Should have no trouble winning the Guineas.
April 13, 2022 at 15:42 #1593435Crikey … that was like watching Concorde.
April 13, 2022 at 15:42 #1593436I agree with what Eddie Fremantle just said on RacingTV.
Lacks instant acceleration, but once he got motoring he was motoring and he did it well enough.
But he was entitled to win as he did in the end.
Happy enough with my ante-post bets – I can’t really see one to beat him so far.
