There are some horses that are kind of cursed.
I have kept my eye and wallet on Jack these past few seasons. I backed him with a fair degree of confidence today, but I well knew that the squidgy hand of Fiasco follows him, as it does some horses.
So I was in no way surprised when he got stuffed. Even when he was out in front with one to go and Tidal Bay struggling, I knew he wouldn’t win somehow. It made me chuckle. Bless him!
November 4, 2012 at 11:41 #419096I don’t think he’s actually a very good horse, sorry.
November 4, 2012 at 11:52 #419098He looked like he’d been galloped till his head was about to explode. Down the back he was so fired up he was almost out of control. He can’t stay at that level until the spring, one to avoid later in the season for me.

Seems a long time since it finished fourth in a Champion Hurdle.
Too much owner interference as well.
Had a tendon injury at Lavelle’s and owner moved it to Nicholls.
Now with another trainer
Has tried fences
November 4, 2012 at 14:25 #419125Mmm, it looks like yesterday was this horse’s big chance for a win this season. Big Buck’s is going to shut down most of the chances to win good three mile hurdles now.
Crack Away Jack still isn’t totally convincing over fences either. The Peterborough Chase or CGA Chase could be decent options over fences if he can sort the jumping out. Maybe if he is ridden "Five Dream style" to scoop up placings behind Big Buck’s, he could still earn some money for connections over hurdles too.

You mean apart from being rated 145 over hurdles and 140 over fences, and consecutive seconds in Grade 1 and Grade 2 suggest that both ratings are the least he’s entitled to. He doesn’t always show it as The Prof intimated, but to suggest he’s not very good is rather ungenerous.

November 4, 2012 at 16:41 #419140Horses have been overrated in the past and will continue to be so overrated. Two that spring to mind are Time For Rupert and Grands Crus.
Just because you think Crack Away Jack is entitled to his rating does not mean he is not still not a very good horse, compared to what people expected/expect him to be.
Apologies for the triple negative there, I’m still trying to get my head round it!

Point taken on his rating, maybe I should have said not very keen on winning. Ten races since his last win in 2009. However, I like him he always seems to be overbet.
