    Taj Mahal 300/1

Ran some good races this year on fast ground, notably when second to the Breeders Cup winner Oscar Performance in the G1 Secretariat Stakes. His last run on GD/Soft he finished 5th to Decorated Hero in the G1 Irish Champion Stakes beaten 4L.

Superstar Winx is going for her 3rd win in the race and is currently 1 to 2 on :negative:

Currently rated 112 in the UK, and with the weight for age allowance means she will have to give the 3YO’s 16.5 lbs.

The only nomination for the AOB stable and with the hype that will come for this record bid certainly a SP quite a lot shorter is highly probable.

You’re not the only one who’s taken 300/1 about an O’Brien colt as I had £2.50 each-way on Johannes Vermeer. He’s already in quarantine with the Caulfield Cup the main target (I had £4 e/w on at 50s for that) but there’s every chance he could back-up quickly in the Cox Plate should things fall appropriately.

Best of luck with Taj Mahal.

I thought Winx looked a bit jaded last time after her third run inside a month. I think she’s getting a pre-Cox run too…I can’t think of a trainer here who’d have prepped a superstar in similar fashion especially as she always seems to do things the hard way.

O’Brien on record stating both Taj Mahal & Johannes Vermeer to race in the Caulfield Stakes next Saturday with Taj Mahal going straight to the Cox Plate after that and Johannes Vermeer to the Caulfield Cup before possibly joining the former in the Plate. If Johannes Vermeer is to run in the Cox Plate it would be his 3rd run in 14 days. But for a horse that doesn’t have a future at stud and to be on the other side of the planet I hope the ‘Lads’ think they might as well run the horse if he’s well.

Well, she didn’t look jaded in the Turnbull!

She’s utterly remarkable. Unusual head carriage, always low and neck out but not straining. In all her races she has never looked to be travelling on the bridle in the way you’d expect and sometimes she has looked positively flat-footed. Seems to defy most of the conventions. Miracle mare.

She looks very good indeed . Will be very interesting ( and exciting ) should she travel to England next year , and maybe take on Enable , who looks to be staying in training .

Ladbrokes have already priced up a potential match-up for either horse to finish ahead of the other if they race before 2019 .

    They go : Enable 8/13 , Winx 6/5

I heard that Winx is quite likely to start of her European campaign in the Diamond Jubilee so a clash with Harry Angel looks far more likely than one with Enable. They say the Queen Anne would be on the table should the ground be very quick. I think they’ll go on to the Sussex Stakes and potentially the Moulin or Juddmonte International after that.

It’ll never happen but should it you’d have to side with Enable as she’d be the younger mare on home soil.

Backed a few in my time that have shortened in the betting, never by 200 pts in a week though

Surely Harry Angel chews her up and spits her out in the Diamond Jubilee?

Surely the diamond jubilee is a couple of furlongs too short? Like you say the Queen Anne seems closer to the mark.

Hang on a minute, how come Taj Mahal has all of a sudden become a 4 year old ?

Yes, he became a 4yo to Southern Hemisphere time on the 1st August. Makes it very difficult for our 3yos down under.

I was very happy to see Johannes Vermeer run such a grand race down under yesterday morning. He’s no better than 10/1 for the Caulfield Cup now (on at 50s) and 33/1 for the Cox Plate (on at 300s). Hopefully he stays sound down there, takes his racing well and the ‘Lads’ run him in both.

Taj Mahal was lacklustre but maybe he’s more ground dependent than his stablemate as it was ground described as soft so that is a possible excuse.

Folkswood won the Cranbourne Cup this weekend for Charlie Appleby down there and could pop up here. He’s 18/1 with Australian bookmakers but 40/1 is available with Ladbrokes and Betfred here.

    Thanks Sunspangled explaining that.

Great run from JV Charles also. Managed to pickpocket a couple of bookies after the race who were still going 33’s for the CC also. Looks like he is a big player now :good:
