Very much doubt Chelmsford racecourse wanted to bring vaccine passes in and wouldn’t under normal (even normal covid) conditions. However, the News yesterday said one of the new South African variant infections is in Chelmsford. (Not sure the newsreader got it right because didn’t the “Kent” variant start there too?) Anyway even if wrong, the infection was LOCAL to Chelmsford So they probably want to make potential racegoers know they’re taking precautions; to reassure them. This new Omicron / South African variant may well turn out to be less dangerous than Delta, but there is some early evidence it might be more dangerous and therefore precautions are good for anything that (without) could turn into a super spreader event… And by that I don’t mean it is at all likely it would be, just if there’s only a 5% threat of turning 11 British Omicron cases into 1000 in one day / one event – surely it’s worth doing until more is known. To wait would be too late. I don’t envisage other courses doing this. Only when Omicron infections are LOCAL and (probably) only in the next week or so until we know more about the new variant.

…And Tank, get a grip mate.
How would you feel if someone called you a “traitor” for not doing what many of us believe is our civic duty – doing something as little as having our vaccinations and booster.

“I went when it was still Great Leighs. It was terrible.”

    This, I can readily believe.

“Yes it does. And yes it does.”

    THIS.^

I seriously worry for the sanity of some forumites sometimes.

Lazy libertarian PM wants to control people?

Conservative government which hates public spending lobbing taxpayer billions at an ineffective vaccine?

“Nurse! The blinds if you please!”

The demise of several racecourses was widely forecast last year yet, rather like the Foxhunters field after The Chair these days, they all seem to be standing.

Newton Abbot has spoken of the problems but the others have bene pretty reticent though no doubt the emergency financial support provided was gratefully received.

Crowds seem to have recovered well – certainly my evidence at both Plumpton and Lingfield this autumn is there are still plenty of the needy and the greedy (delete as appropriate) about.

Ricky Lake has called for a Covid-Free Zone in the Lounge. Can a case be made for a ‘Tank-Free Zone’ in here?

Tank, I was under the impression that you had a sense of humour? Please accept my post in the spirit in that it was meant.

My post should also be accepted in the spirit in which it was intended (although admittedly possibly a somewhat different spirit to Colin’s).

My post should be accepted in the spirit that it is provably 100% scientifically accurate and only cranks or the deeply stupid could possibly think otherwise.

tbh It wasn’t quite 100% scientifically accurate Mike, but yes the spirit was there.

There is still a chance of getting covid and passing it on even if you’re vaccinated.
But the point surely is you’re MUCH LESS likely to get covid if vaccinated… You’re MUCH LESS likely to pass it on to your loved ones, neighbours, work colleagues and anyone else you meet… You’re MUCH LESS likely to get severe covid… And most importantly MUCH MUCH LESS likely of dying from covid.

So why wouldn’t you want to have the jab?
If the answer to that question is “Because it is my choice”, then from the above surely you can see you haven’t made a good choice (at least not yet).

If anyone is thinking back to their childhood and those massive needles it really isn’t anything like that these days. You can barely (actually my dad didn’t) feel anything.

So yes, ham; having the vaccine really does massively help stop the spread of covid.
    Which would you rather have?
a 5/1 chance of getting covid?
    Or a 100/1 chance of getting covid?…
In a race you really don’t want to win. :rose:

The funny thing is, I’m actually fiercely independent, I won’t have anyone trying to tell me what to do, as stated in the Lounge I am very unsociable and I have as little interaction with “The State” as possible.

But everyone doing certain things just makes sense.

And to me everyone having the jab is just as much of a no brainer as everyone driving on the left hand side of the road.

Some things we all need to comply with for both the individual and the common good.

Don’t be silly, of course everyone will drive on the left hand side of the road, that goes without saying
its the wearing of seat belts, stopping at red lights and being told to drive to the speed limit that upsets some..

Why should I drive on the left? Seeing that I’m free to choose whatever I want to do, I think I’ll drive on the right, even if it does increase the risk to both my own life and others’.
