“Give over a proportion of their private lives”, yes gamble. Not everything.
Value Is EverythingFebruary 3, 2021 at 14:09 #1521111Fair enough Ginger, but whether it’s a grandchild wanting to sprawl all over him, or the other adults possibly suffering from a hearing defect, and leaning in on his close airspace – or a hurried doctor with an inadequate mask, and family members acting like shrinking violets in the presence of the potential killer with a case, we will never probably know.
Its more the fact not one in the media has asked the general Covid question of how he got infected. I am, as a known reporter of BB News, just asking that simple question.

The question could be asked until you’re blue in the face but you would never know for sure.
I suspect it’s not from the family as my understanding is the family were with him prior to him passing ….. any suspicion of COVID and they would not have been allowed in the hospital.
Apparently he had been to Bedford hospital in January, so my strong suspicion is it would have been picked up there, but narrowing it down to where exactly is impossible.

The one thing that has been obvious from the start is that the Covid death figures have been ramped up. I don’t know how many have died from it, along with the rest of the general public – but it’s nowhere near 100kI don’t know, and I’d be grateful if you didn’t appropriate my words to suit your agenda
The daily tally for deaths and the running total can only ever be a rough guide to the numbers actually dying of covid rather than with it and the ’28 day’ criterion chosen by the government seems as reasonable a choice as any to provide a grim guide to the public at large
Ginger has it right: it is the excess weekly/monthly/annual deaths correlated against those for the same periods in previous years that is the most reliable guide to the lethality of the pandemic
It’s really little different to the stats for annual mortality ‘from’ flu. It, like covid is most lethal in the elderly, particularly those who have co-morbidities; and of the, say, 15,000 who die each year with cause of death given as flu on their death certificates it is likely that the number who succumbed to flu alone is somewhat less than that
Respiratory disease pathogens just love to run riot in a body already weakened by another disease
February 3, 2021 at 19:08 #1521154Although covid is more dangerous than flu; once we get this year over with suspect it might be similar in some ways to flu. At least in as much as coming back year after year and needing a Covid jab every year for the forseable future… And also being primarily a Winter virus.
As far as “excess deaths” are concerned: If we can control the virus… just might be fewer people dying (of anything) from 2022 to 2025 – if covid has taken many of those vulnerable who without covid would have died in those years.

Fair enough, Drone.
February 4, 2021 at 11:39 #1521235Is the “British” / Kent variant really British /Kentish?
There are many many regions of Britain and yet this variant apparently first appeard just up the road from Dover – in Canterbury. If it truly is British / Kentish then that is surely some coincidence?
Britain also happens to be recognised as a (perhaps “the”) world leader in “genomic sequencing” and therefore is surely the most likely country to find different variants. Another coincidence?
Value Is EverythingFebruary 4, 2021 at 15:46 #1521262Apart from the coincidences, this seemingly self perpetuating virus is all rather concerning Ginger.
February 4, 2021 at 20:42 #1521328Vast majority of similar viruses have variants and could be said to be “self perpetuating”. So this was always on the cards. tbh I am less concerned now than I was a month or so ago.

Who knows how many people have had a bad reaction to the vaccine? Only cases like this are reported. I’m certainly not interested in getting jabbed, but will more than likely have to have a vaccine passport in the future

I know the lad is back home and that he may be more susceptible to having problems because of his condition, but still.
February 7, 2021 at 22:03 #1522101Rumour has it that forumites may no longer be allowed in The Lounge without a Vaccine Passport, Tank.

Too rushed for my liking. Give it a year and see how it’s performed

Anyone on here had the jab yet?
Who are the really old ones… gamble? Alan Potts?
I’m not far behind them, mind.
February 7, 2021 at 23:41 #1522118I don’t think gamble is that old.
