If you don’t mind A/W Kempton frequently have £1 & £5 deals, which are hard to beat.
Should be free at Kempton most meetings looking at the banded class rubbish they put on.
Would have to go for Towcester for best value.
November 26, 2007 at 17:48 #127236I never knew Towcester was free. Now if they can do it why can’t other courses?
The ‘Go Racing in Yorkshire’ season ticket is good value for money. Allows you into all the Yorkshire tracks – Redcar, Ripon, Thirsk, Wetherby, Catterick, York, Beverley, Pontefract and Doncaster – for £270 a year or £380 for joint one.
Sedgefield is worse value for money in my opinion. No facilities, no seating, all concrete, nothing more than class 5’s on a typical day and they charge £18.00 +November 26, 2007 at 17:50 #127237Fortunately I didn’t have to pay as I was there in a work capacity, but Hackwood Park’s insistence on charging £20 to £25 for its Easter Monday point-to-point meeting this year, which had a very moderate entry and ultimately cut up to just 15 runners in six races (including two walkovers), has to rate the least VFM I’ve ever encountered.
Over a quid’s charge for every horse you saw, never mind saw race.

November 26, 2007 at 19:03 #127259I paid to get into the racing…. ONCE That was Epsom for the Derby………cos I don’t know a living sole on the flat and never go………I honestly never realised it was as expensive…….but I have lost touch with the prices in the UK.
Have to agree with you on Market Rasen Kauto. I think it’s one of the best in England, Sandown is a must for anyone who has never been IMO Never not enjoyed the racing there and they are pretty well organised,Perth is run exceptionally well. Not keen on Newcastle think it’s a hole persoanlly…bit like Ayr with the class taken out of it.
December 1, 2007 at 13:51 #128138Lintgfield if you can purchse and take advantage of a season ticket takes some beating for vfm
December 1, 2007 at 16:49 #128206Most of the free to enter racetracks in North America are ersatz racino dumps. Delaware Park is a definite exception to this and they have a very good weekends racing that takes place in the middle of July that I would recommend.
Saratoga at $3 for Grandstand and $5 for Clubhouse is exceptional value. With 14 Grade 1 flat races and 1 Grade 1 Chase race over the 36 days-the $75 for a Clubhouse season pass and $35 for a Grandstand pass also includes 1 voucher for each of the 6 giveaway days.
Anyone can go on the free tour by motorized tram of the backstretch and the frontside of the track is open every morning from 7am to see workouts.
And they also now a have tent with some picnic tables where British racing is shown from 830 every morning.
January 21, 2008 at 19:15 #6352Hello have only just joined the forum as i find it to be a fascinating place to be on.
Anyway I have been looking at admission prices at two of my favourite courses York and Donny and i am amazed at the prices.
Great Yorkshire Chase day this Saturday which is one of my fave meetings in the N.H. season used to be £16 in the members but is now £28 which is a huge increase.
York this year now charge £32 into the County for the main Saturday raceday, only used to be £27 a few years ago and for the Ebor Meeting is £50 which is a phenominal amount.
My local track is Haydock and i must apologize to everyone is racing for our Clerk of the Course for being a total clot and ruining the jumps track which was a great steeplchase course.
January 21, 2008 at 19:22 #136845They do have a buy one get one free offer on all enclosures at Donny on Friday and Saturday if you book by phone.
I’ve never understood why anyone pays the extra to go in the County Stand at York when you get all the facilities you need in Tatts.
£75 for 4 days at the Ebor in Tatts isn’t too bad IMO when you think how much a day costs at the Cheltenham festival and Royal Ascot amongst others.
Haydocks prices are a disgrace.January 21, 2008 at 19:36 #136847It’s only £25 to watch the first day of the National in Tatts. No idea which enclosure you’re in Neil but I can’t see it being £28 for a regular one.
Would say that racecourse prices are similar to entry to a rugby match – £13 to £20 is about right, £40+ for bigger meetings/matches would be alright.
January 21, 2008 at 19:45 #136850If you want REALLY cheap racing, then yesterday, Dortmund let in people for FREE! Yes, I know what you’re thinking, but stay with me on this one.
Basically, we had 6 runners there yesterday, and as Christian couldn’t make it, he asked me to undertake my stable representative role that I do in the UK – last time at Newbury. Obviously I don’t pay to get in, but I’ve done a quick totting up of the prices from here in Leicester using public transport as I do:
NEWBURY:
Train from Leicester (return): £58.60
Admission: c. £25
Total price: £83.60DORTMUND:
Coach to Luton Airport (return): £22:00
Flight Luton-Dortmund (return incl taxes) £20:00
Admission: Free
Total price: £42:00Yes, it was a special offer flight and Dortmund is certainly no Newbury, but the German course is HALF PRICE!!!!! I have to say that half of Dortmund racecourse was closed, and facilities are what I would call limited, but even so, there are some racecourses in the UK with pretty poor facilities, and I’m not sure if they let people in for free!! Oh yes, and how many courses in England have a NINE race card??
If you do want your racing a bit more upmarket though, then Baden-Baden and Cologne are nice courses with reasonable admission prices, and most of the top course in France charge only 8 Euros (about £5.50) admission.

January 21, 2008 at 22:03 #136885Well National wise i only do the first two days as the quality is top class and well worth the cost plus for me this meeting is much better than Cheltenham as Aintree can take crowds bigger than 50000.
It was a case before that Racing was cheaper than football but now it seems they want to be more expensive than footie.
January 21, 2008 at 22:07 #136888If they sorted out some direct flights from up here too Deaville i wold go more often, its dirt cheap too get in and the Norman trainers these days have plenty of useful horses at home too give the Chantilly lot the odd sleepless night.
Yorks countystand is great buts it is over priced and often full of drunks, plus the veiw of the parade ring is shocking.
British racecourses need too reduce the amount of bad racing, lower the entry fees, treat owners with respect and genrally stop dumbing down racing as well as turning our courses into the bloody pubs.
January 21, 2008 at 22:46 #136901Yes, there are some terribly pricey racecourses in Britain, imo. I think I must be obsessed with the game to pay some of the prices!
To date, Longchamp, for the Arc, has been the best value course I’ve attended, judging by
the quality per euro,
the comfort and ease per euro.January 22, 2008 at 10:19 #136941It was a case before that Racing was cheaper than football but now it seems they want to be more expensive than footie
Not in my area
Very decent Saturdays at Newbury, Kempton, Ascot and Sandown are £18 or less
You cant get into Brentford or QPR for that, let alone Chelsea
January 22, 2008 at 10:33 #136946Why would anybody in their right mind want to get into Brentford or QPR??
January 22, 2008 at 11:26 #136953Yes, you could go to any amount of decent non-league grounds in the area, pay a lot less and enjoy the game a lot more.
January 22, 2008 at 11:58 #136960I suppose it all depends on how much of a bang you get for your buck!
Personally, I’ve had much enjoyment from watching a trotting race in a farmer’s field ( £4 admission) than I have had at Goodwood when the mist comes in.
I’m afraid Kempton has always been very deflating in recent years. I can’t think why I still go there. Perhaps I should try Brentford or QPR!Btw, Towcester is good value, especially for people who live in or near Milton Keynes.
