Hmmm….cannot disguise my disappointment in the beast. Whacked £20 on his pretty little nose.
I’m really not sure if his attitude is questionable…he did fight, but also seemed one paced when hitting the front.
The horse that beat him was a right rag
In some ways you have been proven right Firefox – *ankable does lack a turn of foot. I have also suggested he might try and make the running, though I sense this may not make any difference at all – he just doesn’t seem to do “enough.”
Very confusing. Possibly because I am looking for reasons/excuses to explain his defeat.
TDK is also right…..*ankable’s level of form is rated that of a group winner. He just has not done the job.
I’m not sure if we will see him again this year – I think he should go and lie down in a field till next year. He may be one of those creatures with seconditis…but those horses sometimes suddenly improve and find the winning thread. (Sergeant Cecil & Rooster Booster recent ish examples)
I’ve always maintained he is a group winner wiating to happen, and I am starting to waver…but he can do it

October 18, 2008 at 22:18 #185310At the moment, Firefox, you are correct in your evaluation of the horse….only time will prove otherwise.
I believe he can go on to win group races next season, he looks like he has imporvement to come as well – he has a big framegetting his head in front will do him the world of good.
I concede, however, that he may also turn out to be an expensive disappointment.
Roll on 2009!

October 19, 2008 at 15:24 #185394Bankable may be a bit canine, but he is a Group-class canine.
November 1, 2008 at 00:22 #187306Setting myself up to look a mug but :
For a while I’ve been of the opinion that Bankable is a slightly better horse on softish ground. He runs to a good level on faster ground but just doesn’t quicken. The softer the ground the more it just slows everything else down a fraction and I think this suits Bankable. He doesn’t quite properly get ten furlongs in my opinion but 8 / 9 furlongs on good to soft or soft ground is just what Bankable needs. Tomorrow he should get conditions to suit unless Newmarket dries out.

I’ll join you Ian.
With rain forecast on ground that already has some cut in it, the race is his for the taking. The only problem I can foresee is lack of a proper pace, but Dane O’Niell has the solution for that in his own hands.
If he’s not better than these in those circumstances, then he may have a problem, but as the only horse to beat him over 1m on soft ground happens to have been Raven’s Pass, I sincerely doubt it.November 1, 2008 at 01:18 #187308I think Bankable has an excellent chance tomorrow and will be backing him at 11-4 or bigger.
November 1, 2008 at 01:48 #187311I cant help but be tempted to turn my back on *ankable tomorrow for the first time.
Virtual just looks to be in some nice form. Good win last time out in France and is going for the hat trick tomorrow.
*ankable faces his hardest opposition for a while in my opinion. Alexandros seems to have started to find form too and Calming Influence is best over the mile.
I cant help but wonder if Bankable has had too long a season.
I’m sure he’ll go prove me wrong now haha
November 1, 2008 at 02:43 #187313You guys are on the ball with this horse..
I shall have to check this race…tbh, I thought he would have been rested for the season..but Cumani obviously thinks: “hit me baby one more time.”
11/4 sounds very tempting..

November 1, 2008 at 03:29 #187320For those waiting for the 11/4, it’s worth pointing out that over two grand has been traded at that price or above already; perhaps Firefox is playing up his winnings……
November 1, 2008 at 03:56 #187321Dijeer and/or Alexandros and probably Without A Prayer should ensure they go a decent gallop.

Dont Panic 12/1 on softish ground!
Gentlemen I think we’ve found value of the year here, empty your wallets on this one.

William Hill are a standout 3/1 (Corals shortest at 9/4 ) which looks more than reasonable for the best horse in the race.
November 1, 2008 at 15:24 #187367Segal and a lot of this mornings’ papers tip my selection Virual
I’m hoping *ankable is really tired after the long season
November 1, 2008 at 16:14 #187378The only negative for Bankable today is whether this may be one race too many. The way he’s been campaigned in the last month is so unlike Cumani. Perhaps he was always going to run him in this, or perhaps he’s a little annoyed at suggestions the horse is a bit funny etc and want to win this today to prove them wrong. 3/1 or 11/4 I’d be backing him. At 9/4 I’d be happy to watch.
November 1, 2008 at 16:26 #187381Bankable’s big problem is that he doesnt want it badly enough. That was evident back at Newbury when he didnt want to go through the pain barrier when battling with Passage Of Time. Nothing he’s done since has changed my opinion of him.
A very dodgy betting proposition.

Best-priced 9/4 at the moment, which suggests Corals were nearer the mark than Hills.
On that subject, Tanya reported that Hills were longest on 3 favourites in this morning’s earlies, which is unusual enough to be almost unique.
Does anyone know if they’ve had a policy/personnel change, or was it just a blip?November 1, 2008 at 20:59 #187449Ok revised view – Bankable is a git and a definite dodgepot from now on.
