June 1, 2010 at 13:17 #29796910-1 about Age of Aquarius is daylight robbery on the part of the layers, he clearly was tapped for pace against Profound Beauty over 1m6f despite having stolen a good few lengths start as they approached the straight …but if The Coronation Cup was over 2 miles ………….

I’d say that FAG has blown cold several times, for example his season debut, but more notably in the Champion Stakes, when he was running for the 3rd time in 6 weeks (he was also beaten by Sariska that day). And Friday he will be running for the 3rd time in 5 weeks. I don’t think it’s that hard to see past FAG for this one.
Cavalryman – would be a good bet, if there wasn’t the sense that he has been horribly ruined by SBS since leaving Fabre.
Youmzain – can he get past 2nd?
Leaving Sariska and Jukebox Jury…?June 3, 2010 at 02:43 #298320AnonymousInactive- Total Posts 17716
A poor renewal of what is generally a below standard race anyway, and Fame And Glory really ought to win it handsomely, though the very fact that he is ‘pot hunting’ these weak early-season gp1’s speaks volumes for how little Coolmore truly think of his real ability.
Arc favourite indeed – he won’t see where they went again!June 3, 2010 at 09:19 #298338I have placed my usual each-way bet on Youmzain … again!
June 3, 2010 at 10:14 #298348A poor renewal Reet? That is definitely a bit harsh…this years combatants would appear to have achieved more, prior to the race, than any recent running.
A below standard race anyway?…not sure I go along with that either. The Coronation Cup, Tattersals, D’Ispahan all take place in a part of the year before the 3yos can join in…you have often lost the very big stars from last year to stud (Sea The Stars etc) and injuries, so those races never get respect anyway.
They are necessary for the pattern though or there would be a greatly dimished incentive for horses to stay in training beyond 3. Trainers would be crying…"Am I supposed to keep him in his box till July?"A slightly better than average renewal of a very worthy and necessary race..in my view.
June 3, 2010 at 10:39 #298353I agree with Shabby – looks a good race to me, an above average renewal. The best 1m4f race at Epsom over the next couple of days (unfortunately).

Good stuff, Shabby; first you argue it’s not a below standard race, then go on to tell us exactly why it is!
Like the Lockinge and the Tatt’s, it lacks the big stars that are being saved for the better races at the end of the season, or have gone to stud, and it’s too early for the emergent 3yo to be taking on their elders. They’re also for considerably smaller purses than the real top races, though still carry much the same kudos for breeding purposes – all of which I’m sure Coolmore are acutely aware.
As for this year’s race (the favourite apart) it involves the inconsistent Youmzain, who has hit the target just once in 18 racea in the last 4 seasons: Cavalryman, who needs softer ground at this trip and may be on a warm-up anyway, Jukebox Jury, who had to go to Germany to find a gp1 he could compete in, and the admirable Sariska, who is, after all, a filly.
Top class race it isn’t, no matter how you dress it up.June 3, 2010 at 12:41 #298375We seem to be at cross purposes Reet…you seem to want to compare the Coronation Cup with The Arc or similar race for all ages in the second half of the season…clearly the CC is inferior, no arguements
However it is by far the best early season 4yo+ G1 and this is where any comparison should be made.
As to this years running…we must disagree I think it is better than average.June 3, 2010 at 13:00 #298378I can’t quite get my head around Fame and Glory taking a mid season break.
He has 1 Group 1 over 1m2f on very fast ground. He could have one more 2moro. But then a mid season break? why. Go for the Prince of Wales next then onto King George.
Strike when the iron is hot and then let him go on a little break and try and win the all aged races with the 3yr olds.
I not sure why they are going for the Arc Prep thingy. Jan Vermeer is likely to go for the Arc and i can’t see Murtagh getting off a Derby Winning 3yr old. Whether it be Epsom or The Curragh.
June 3, 2010 at 14:58 #298404Irish Derby winner, dual Oaks winner, Group one winner and Arc runner-up – various other multiple Group race winners. Not sure what you want from this race Reet Hard, but i think its a mouth waterer myself.
June 3, 2010 at 22:18 #298497Jukebox Jury the choice for me at 14-1. Youmzain with Fallon on Board could go well with a prominent ride as he did against Soldier Of Fortune in France 2 years ago. But think with AOBs pace setters JJ could be a dangerous one.

Fame And Glory odds on with two competitors engaged that have beaten him previously? Leave me out! This isn’t a Teddy Bear’s picnic like last time.
June 4, 2010 at 13:12 #298548There’s very little separating Sariska and Fame And Glory on form, in fact Fame And Glory has a slight defecit to turn around on a line through Dar Re Mi. For this reason I feel Sariska’s worth an e/w punt at 7/2. Theres no doubting Fame And Glory’s a high class horse but he hasn’t met a competitior of the class of Sariska, Youmzain or Cavalryman yet this year.
June 4, 2010 at 13:53 #298557Slow horse with no turn of foot and I stand by that. He will get utterly mullered when he meets proper 12f Group 1 performenrs. I dread to think how far back he’ll finish in the Prince of Wales.
June 4, 2010 at 13:54 #298558Fame And Glory has arrived in this race imo, that was magnificent, great time also.
Sea The Stars needed horses like this to cement his legacy further, we await Rip Van Winkle.
