Journey is definitely a group 1 autumn horse. I was a bit naive to back her but I went down the ‘John Gosden has never won this race, so surely its his turn now’ route.
We’ve all been there, haven’t we?
Hindsight is a wonderfully horrible thing.

I hope they meet in the Hardwicke..June 2, 2017 at 21:44 #1303102A tactical masterclass from Moore or farcical from his rivals? A bit of both probably but what a horse Highland Reel is when he gets his preferred conditions, the writing was on the wall from a long way out.
Yes, what a horse.
Stressful journey, delayed for 4 hours in transit, only time for a drink and a piddle before the race, (as Aidan put it so eloquently), not surprisingly a bit unsettled going to post, led all the way, set a strong pace from the start, didn’t handle the course very well in the straight, and still managed to hold off two challengers, one that tried to stay with him but faded, and the other that came from off the pace.June 2, 2017 at 22:21 #1303113but his opponents were simply harmless..
June 2, 2017 at 23:43 #1303133Journey is a horse for the Autumn and should probably stick to racing against her own sex. I’ve never been a fan of USAR but his run was too bad to be true today. Idaho was “just ready to start” and it showed – though I don’t think he is a Group 1 horse. Last years Derby has thrown up plenty of Group winners (Ulysses, Across The Stars, Algometer, Idaho plus two Group 1 winning horses (Cloth Of Stars and Deauville) so I don’t think we can say it was THAT bad can we? There have certainly been better but there have been worse too surely.
Highland Reel was the only proper Group 1 horse in that race today and his class came to the fore. BUT the eye-catcher was surely Frontiersman who ran a hell of a race for one who handled the track so badly. One to watch next time definitely.

June 3, 2017 at 00:22 #1303141I was shouting Frontiersman home Joni I always back him being out of Ouija Board he is a favourite of mine, did get 16/1 earlier in the week and was really hoping that he would win today. Had to split my bet today as Hawkbill is another that I love to back so ended up with two nice place bets. Well done with your winners today and good luck tomorrow in the Derby, hoping to see a Frankel win to level up the scores with Nathaniel..Jac
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...June 3, 2017 at 00:31 #1303142Really impressed with Frontiersman, I was straight out of the block to dismiss any chance he had in this. He has an eye catching change of gear but needs to find a bit more early pace at this level. He was giving the Doyler a hard enough time hanging to the left as well. I will also be keeping an eye out to where he’s heading next.

June 3, 2017 at 08:27 #1303178I thought Idaho ran a great race on his comeback yesterday, totally unfancied but ran on well. Maybe Goodwood Cup this year as it’s now a G1 race.
June 6, 2017 at 04:24 #1303627Getting to Highland reel isn’t difficult but passing him is another matter. It’s ridiculous he doesn’t get the credit he deserves as when he is on his game over 12 f on good/good to firm going he is one tough cookie. I wouldn’t be surprised if he won the king George again providing the going is good and he will be in the frame in the arc and the breeders cup. £5.3m in prizemoney and counting. I wouldn’t be surprised if he retired as Europes biggest money earner. I believe he is going to stand at Ashford stud beside war front and I’m sure if he gets the right mares to cover he will produce top horses. Quite similar I think to saddlers Wells who wasn’t the best of his generation but was the dogs B’s at stud.
