Hamish keeps on shortening.
Feed The Flame is now back to bigger than the price I laid him yesterday morning.Value Is EverythingMay 31, 2024 at 14:57 #1696222I was going to back Emily Upohn, she’s 7/4 but I see that
Bet365 is offering Emily Upjohn and Luxembourg at even
money. It’s shorter than I normally back, but I think
it is a sound bet and despite the odds it’s still very
good value.May 31, 2024 at 15:03 #1696223There is some money for Hamish. Connections like to have a bet on him and were proved right on a few occasions. But for a stayer he is too short for this kind of race.
May 31, 2024 at 15:05 #1696224Do i detect a slight defence of his jockey by John Gosden (in case she is beaten), by suggesting that Emily Upjohn is not quite there yet but will be spot on for her next run. Or am i reading too much into it and he’s just being honest?

Gosden has lost the plot. To come out and say ‘she’ll be spot on next time” 5 mins before the Group 1 Coronation Cup is a disgrace.
Everything’s a prep run nowadays it seems.May 31, 2024 at 15:20 #1696231Don’t say you weren’t told.
“I’m against Emily Upjohn and Feed The Flame here, laid them.
And backed the other three.Because on paper there does not look to be much pace in the race.
Luxembourg has struggled to get home in a fast run 12f race before, but Ryan could get an easy lead here and set a slow pace to suit himself.
On past form Emily and Flame should be near or at the back and be at a positional disadvantage. Emily might still be able to win from there, but just means she’s imo a poor price to do so.
Hamish has raced prominently before so could race more to the fore… But hasn’t done so for over a year now. Haggas is often more prepared for a slowly run affair.
Ditto Buick. Time Lock is usually at least as far back as mid-div. However, Time Lock (Ryan) did let rank outsider Outbox have too much of a lead last time, so connections could want a change of tactics, especially with first time cheek pieces”.Value Is EverythingMay 31, 2024 at 15:29 #1696233“Gosden has lost the plot. Quite frankly it was a bit embarrassing that none of the other jockeys thought to change up their own tactics instead of giving the quickest horse in the race (that has raced predominately over 10F for his whole career) a freebie on the lead where he was allowed to slow the pace right up and turn it into a sprint up the straight.

They were talking Eclipse next like last year though whether plans will change now i dunno.
May 31, 2024 at 15:43 #1696238Gosden said Hardwicke.
The things I want most in life are the things that I can't win.
May 31, 2024 at 15:47 #1696242Maybe they need to employ a pacemaker for her to avoid being held hostage to fortune in a slowly run race.

—————————————-Buick did exactly that, LD… On Time Lock. But the horse was too free with a clear view of the front. So if he’d persisted TL would’ve had nothing left – had no choice then to take a lead.
Shoemark actually had Emily Upjohn handier than she usually is. But again, when Ryan slowed it down EU was a little free. She was also close enough if good enough rounding the turn in second. But it was no surprise when she had nothing left halfway up the straight.
Hamish used to be a front /prominent runner, but tactics were changed over a year ago which resulted in better form… So if changing tactics again it risks him not showing his best too.
Feed The Flame is always dropped out (can be slow away) bar when being too free in the Arc when ridden more prominently. So he was never going to do anything but be held up.
Value Is EverythingMay 31, 2024 at 15:52 #1696244Well done winners, I’m glad I opted for Emily Upjohn and Luxembourg together
