Always two races I look forward to, on of a cluster of top days at Leopardstown in January and February.
Tony Martin has a good chance of winning both contests, with recent winners Whatsforuwontgobyu and Noble Emperor my fancies. Noble Emperor fell in a chase at Limerick at Christmas but has since got his head in front over hurdles and must have a big chance off 140 in the chase. He is a Grade 2 horse masquerading as a handicapper and he’ll show it one day.
Whatsoruwontgobyu made a mockery of his mark of 117 at Christmas and a 10 lb hike in the weights will probably not be enough to stop him winning again. I’m not sure if either are intended runners but the double is certainly tempting me with both horses 12/1 shots.
January 11, 2016 at 20:13 #1229282Nice one Tommy, and you’re right, love these days racing at Leapordstown.
Totally with you on Whatsforuwontgobyu in The Hurdle, though I’m also keen on Sir Scorpion, and Modem, both at 20’s.
In the big chase, I’m swaying towards the Ted Walsh pair, Rossvoss & Seabass. I’ll not put more on a horse this season, than I did on Rossvoss last time, and I reckon he’s a lot better than that showing, so he’ll get my support again, albeit with a lot less on this time. Despite my fears that Aintree would stretch him as a 13yo, this looks winnable (again) for Seabass, who’s not got many miles on the clock, and after a risible re-appearance has run 2 stormers over hurdles lately. He could be a tad underrated at 16’s.
No money down as yet though, as I quite liked the comeback of Buckers Bridge, who’s available at 20’s, and there could be more to come for Clar Na Mion, who I won a few quid off the last time…….he’s very big at 25’s, and old Lyreen Legend has had a couple of quite spins, and could surprise, again at 25’s.
Decisions Decisions
January 11, 2016 at 20:25 #1229287I thought Noble Emperor was going to be a top class chaser but he just hasn’t jumped in the process wasting several excellent opportunities. Really annoyed to miss him last time. If he were mine he would stay over hurdles.
January 12, 2016 at 22:50 #1229406Ice Cold Soul in the hurdle. Progressive, course winner, second last time has won since…
January 13, 2016 at 17:42 #1229457DESIOTO COUNTY in hurdle 12/1 and Killer Crow 10s in chase a Gordon Elliott double i say
January 14, 2016 at 13:37 #1229509I’m all for Killer Crow, has taken a while to get his act together over fences but won doing handstands at Navan and then ran an odd race in a Handicap chase in Limerick, was held up,made ground to join leaders and then was let drift back down the field again and went to make his move but made a bad mistake, was let find his feet again before closing impressively but didn’t have enough to overtake Pairofbrowneyes after his early exertions. I think he has plenty in hand and will be dropped out to come with one late run.
For the hurdle Herminators run last time out was eye catching to say the least, the jockey was a passenger and a passenger that didn’t look too keen to win might i add, problem is i hear the lad that was onboard that day is an owner or co-owner and could be on all the time which i didn’t think Willie’d put up with that sort of thing so i presume he’s a better rider than he looked the last day and i can see an improved showing if he turns up. A lot of money around for stablemate Kalkir during the week it seems and he could be well treated but he’s very short now.
January 15, 2016 at 18:56 #1229638Geraghty down to 10st 4lbs on After Rain looks a tip in itself.

He looks a decent bet Bozlike. He won as he liked at Wexford off 116, and
ran a decent race off 123 last time out, a running on 3rd behind Blue Hell and
Diamond King.Blue Hell was raised 11 lbs for that win, and Diamond King, who was raised 4 lbs
ran out an easy winner at Punchestown next time out. AFTER RAIN was only raised
2 lbs, which by my reckoning means he is probably well treated. He is at this moment best priced 8/1, having been backed down from 14/1 a couple
of days ago (gambled into 6s in places). Being owned by JP, it wouldn’t surprise
me if he is much shorter come Sunday. He only has to beat another 24 horses, in what is always a cut and thrust no quarter
given race …….piece of cake -
