Looks like Coral have taken over from Ladbrokes for the old Hennessy…..

    https://www.oddschecker.com/horse-racing/ante-post-racing/national-hunt/coral-gold-cup/winner

Only a handful listed so far, but the likes of Dusart and Corach Rambler look like ideal types.

My main fancy right now is Remastered. I think a repeat bid is on the cards here after last years misfortune. Would have won with ease I reckon, before a crunching fall late on. He’ll come here potentially 4lbs lower, and I think they’ve been messing about with him since. 25’s actually tempts me right now, but I’d love to see 33’s.

Stablemate Gericault Roque very interesting too at 25’s.

Always interesting to see the Irish entries, and certainly a race that Willie Mullins likes to target. His Ontheropes is another who might be up for a repeat bid, while the ultimately disappointing Escaria Ten, could be a possible.

With Aintree not on the agenda for Cloth Cap, this could be a target for the former winner, and in same ownership, Major Dundee looks to be a cert to run here, and could be one of the safer Antepost selections.

Last years winning yard just might have an ideal candidate in Commodore. Really like this horse, and worth forgiving his flop at Aintree, while it’s not that big a leap for their Chambard either.

Think there’ll be a few well handicapped horses for Sandy Thomson this year, and I’d love to see Dingo Dollar get an entry.

I’ll definitely bet one for this in the next few weeks, with Remastered favoured just ahead of Gericault Roque, but come the entry stage, I’ll have a good look at the Irish entries, especially from Mullins.

Remastered certainly my main fancy right now, but no harm in having a few on the radar…

    Early Shortlist
    Commodore
    Corach Rambler
    Dusart
    Gericault Roque
    Major Dundee
    Remastered

I was very keen on Next Destination for this last year, but sadly his fragility concerns ruled him out all year. If he was fit again this year I’d be very interested again. He obviously wouldn’t be an ap bet though.

Gailard Du Mesnil is the horse that I like just now, and I think that Fiddlerontheroof could go well again.

I think that Dusart will have a really good season, so I’ve taken 14-1 for him. He’s just below the top races, so I think that something like this is the ideal race for him

    Entries…

    https://www.racingpost.com/racecards/36/newbury/2022-11-26/822753

All of my original shortlist make it, bar Commodore, which makes things difficult for me, but having already bet Remastered last week, that’ll do for now anyway.

It’s a strong looking entry, and think Major Dundee can put himself bang there this weekend.

Frodon is a surprise entry, and at 33’s, I’m sorely tempted. Also like the look of that Capodanno entry, along with stablemate Franco De Port.

Eyes everywhere then, and having bet Remastered, I’ll stick with him, but Frodon and the Mullins pair fair complicating matters

    Remastered 33’s

It’s always a race I like, so it’s two ap bets for me here, with Fiddlerontheroof 16-1, and Our Power 33-1

I like Our Power tomorrow Roses, but I missed the price on him. I can’t miss that 33-1 though, and I think that’s worthy of my first bet here.

I like another outsider at 33-1, Mister Coffey, but only one bet just now

My first hope here was that I didn’t want my Grand National bet, The Galloping Bear to get an entry, and I hope that this confirms that they’ll be protecting his mark

Oscar Elite is in my TTF and he’s my first bet here, a nice EW price at 33s. He did well to finish 3rd in the Ultima despite bleeding and the wind op should gave helped in that regard. The trip should be no bother and tomorrow’s spin over hurdles should set him right for it.

Does anyone else see “Coral Gold Cup” and initially think of the not entirely dissimilarly-named long-standing contest over hurdles at the Cheltenham Festival?

Oscar Elite for me 25s based on a decent run in the ultima, Hopefully the jumping can stick together after a light spin over hurdles at the weekend.

Gericault Roque for me at this stage, though I won’t be having an ante-post bet, even though he might shorten with a good run on Saturday.

Fiddlerontheroof has a very realistic chance too. I don’t think that he’ll be far away, and it’s more likely that he’ll be my earlier punt in this

Mister Coffey right now is my idea of the winner. I haven’t had a bet right now though, and I’m another who’s watching Fiddlerontheroof. He might just advertise his claims for this race this afternoon

    Happy go lucky @ 33’s

Just had a first look at the race and i thought it looks a bit of a poor looking renewal to be fair. He must of had an injury or something last year but looked to be an improving chaser the season before last i thought.

Has his comeback run in the big race tomorrow so hoping for a decent show.

“bit of a poor looking renewal”

Even back in the day the Henessy wax seldom the same quality two years running.

You’d get Arkle, Bregawn, Burrough Hill Lad, plus Denman and in other years the top weight wouldn’t even have an Earthly of making the frame in a Cheltenham Gold Cup.

Since the advent of the clashing Betfair Chase the old Hennessy is just another staying handicap chase nowadays.
