I echo the sentiments of IBRacing and Jonibake in that he definitely looks to want the 12f and will improve for it. Hopefully will go for the King George as I have tickets!
July 5, 2015 at 10:26 #1122549Fine and gutsy win by Golden Horn. Still, GH does appear more effective over 12 furlongs IMO.
If Time Test had been in yesterday’s race though, I think it would’ve been very close. What do others think?
July 5, 2015 at 12:23 #1122574I think the way the race was run was against GH as ideally he would want a decent pace to track in which would allow his stamina to come into play over the trip. I think Time Test would of gone very close but the likelihood being GH will compete in 12f races and TT 10f so they will probably not meet. Breeders Cup Classic would be a good match for the two.

July 5, 2015 at 12:53 #1122584It was an inspired tactical decision to make all .
At one point I feared The Grey Gatsby was going to out muscle and intimidate the
smaller Derby winner – but all credit to Frankie and the horse .I do not think the King George is the route Gosden and Oppenheimer
should take with the colt ; the Juddmonte is tailor made for Golden Horn ,
having won over course and distance ( Dante ) before The Derby.Gambling Only Pays When You're Winning
July 5, 2015 at 12:59 #1122585Time Test is a good horse but he would have had to improve a lot to challenge the top 2 yesterday. Maybe they’ll meet later in the year at York? Perhaps with Free Eagle and New Bay as well? What a mouth watering clash that would be
July 5, 2015 at 13:24 #1122620Time Test has been slow to mature so could still progress further.

July 5, 2015 at 14:07 #1122642Agree Time Test has a way to go yet but he shows huge potential. Thankfully he is being handled by a very patient trainer who sees the end game. So it will be a Group 2 next before the final step up to Group 1 and we will see much more of him next year.
"this perfect mix of poetry and destruction, this glory of rhythm, power and majesty: the undisputed champion of the world!!!"
July 5, 2015 at 16:21 #1122939Time Test is not ready to challenge the likes of Golden Horn or The Grey Gatsby.
As for Golden Horn ; looks as if we won’t be seeing him racing at four .

July 5, 2015 at 21:08 #1123238Derby>Eclipse>King George>Arc would be a tough ask. Hard to sustain 100% over a high summer/autumn campaign.
He did it the hard way yesterday and is undoubtedly a very high class colt indeed but I thought the field for the Eclipse was disappointing.
July 6, 2015 at 12:07 #1124453Still think a KG run is asking a bit much of a 3yr old who has already won a Dante, Derby & Eclipse, also I am not sure that Ascot’s short straight (compared to Newmarket, York, Epsom & Sandown) would suit him given the fact that it takes him a long time to hit full flight.
Also not surprising that his owner (neither a wealthy Arab or part of Coolmore) isn’t keen on a 4 yr old campaign as for a relatively smaller breeding operation being able to offer a (potentially) unbeaten Derby winner to perspective clients will ensure that they are generating the maximum amount of revenue that they can. Makes simply economic sense really.

Arghhhhhhhhh! The racing saying I hate the most Joni.

Not on Timeform ratings he doesn’t.

Damm, I guess Derby winnings don’t stretch as far as they used to anymore.
July 6, 2015 at 17:23 #1125314I doubt that Time Test and Golden Horn will meet.
Time Test has an incredible range of ratings across the boards. The official handicapper has a less optimistic view, with a rating of 116 awarded to Roger Charlton’s fast improving son of Dubawi. The Racing Post are a little more generous with an award of 121. Timeform have taken the incredible looking step of rating Time Test 130p for winning a Group 3 race. That mark is a full stone higher than the official handicapper and one of the two will probably have serious quantities of egg on their face in the aftermath of his next run.
I am not sure what Timeform have done with Golden Horn post Eclipse, but following the Irish Derby they bumped his rating up to 132p, a rise of one to reflect the fact that Jack Hobbs had advertised the Epsom form. That mark would leave Time Test only 2lbs behind the Derby and Eclipse winner.
Whose figures are we to trust?
We heard straight after Time Test’s win that his performance on the stopwatch was exceptional. Some pundits trust the chronometer implicitly but it raises question marks for me on numerous occasions. In this instance we need to ask where Peacock sits in the scheme of things, having been runner up to both Golden Horn and Time Test?
Golden Horn beat Peacock by a length and a half in the Fielden Stakes, whereas Time Test easily despatched him by three and a quarter lengths in the Tercentenary. It is as certain as Christmas that Golden Horn improved a shed-load from the Fielden, through the Dante and Derby, to the horse we saw win a small field Eclipse. It becomes a question to my mind of visualising Golden Horn running in the Tercentenary and trying to predict how far he would have beaten Peacock had he run in the race Time Test won.
Golden Horn was rated 90 going into the Fielden, whereas Peacock was ranked 106. Golden Horn was favourite that day, so the world seemed to know he was going to improve. On official ratings Peacock is now 109 and Golden Horn 126, so you have to wonder how far he would defeat the Hannon horse if they met now.
Time Test may yet prove he is Group 1 class but, for now, an awful lot of faith is being placed on a quick time at Ascot.
I reckon I know which way punters would lean if a Derby/Eclipse winner met up with a Group 3 winner, even if there is only 2 lbs in it on some figures.
Then again, the value may be with the less exposed horse?
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.

Well I guess the ownership had better things to spend the Derby winnings on.

But being that the Oppenheimer family are the owners of diamond company De Beers – you would have thought that Sir Anthony would have the necessary readies available to do both!
