Well done Hendo and Buckley dragging it out so I could smash into every price available
A shame they couldn’t keep going until Con Hill’s first run of the season
    Bookies pants pulled down
Who doesn’t love Nicky Henderson.. :yahoo:

You might yet see Constitution Hill in a Cheltenham Gold Cup one day – but only once he’s too old and slow to win the Champion Hurdle any more.

You could be in for a bit of a wait.

The expected decision; very few CH winners try chasing – I recall Celtic Shot, Beech Road & Morley Street all chasing….and Celtic Shot was sent off favourite in 1991 for the Gold Cup.

He’ll remain a big fish in a small pond; not trying him on the Flat is a shame, especially when Vauban looks decent, and may well go close in ‘the Cup’.

I remember Night Nurse being well fancied for the 1982 Gold Cup, not by me though my fancy was Silver Buck.

Night Nurse was, of course, only denied by his stable companion Little Owl in the 1981 Gold Cup.

Keeping Constitution Hill over hurdles is the right decision IF you consider the Gold Cup the only steeplechase worth winning at the Cheltenham festival.

Vauban has never been a fluent hurdler – whereas Constitution Hill is a brilliant jumper of hurdles – and the gap between them on the Flat could be much narrower.

Plus don’t fall into the trap of believing a 2m4f hurdles winner would definitely stay 2m4f in a Gold Cup at Royal Ascot.

The latter is a far sterner stamina test.

Constitution Hill is the best Champion Hurdle winner since Istabraq – might yet be since Night Nurse or the best ever – and he really wasn’t as impressive over 2m4f at Aintree, so a no-brainer to stay hurdling.

The chances of Constitution Hill running on the flat are all but zero. Nicky Henderson is fully aware that this outstanding hurdler may not transpose his superiority from NH to the flat.

The more I know the less I understand.

The as been quite a few champion hurdlers ran over the flat. Glad, what about Champion Chase, for a few years I remember One Man being entered for the Gold Cup, but he didn’t stay. As soon as they tried for the Champion Chase, he won it.

Clearly, Messrs Buckley, Henderson and de Boinville think the Champion Chase not worthy of Constitution Hill, Rummy. 🤷‍♂️

Hills have priced up the number of Ch Hurdles he’ll win in his career

12-1 Exactly one (i.e. no more)
    7-2 Exactly two
    4-6 Exactly three
    7-2 Four or more

I’d be interested in the 12/1 given the number of things that can go wrong for him (injury/regression) and the possibility that he will face stronger rival(s) next time. As things stand it is unlikely he will fail to win at least one more but it’s a lot easier to lose them than to win them.

I agree 12/1 looks a good bet considering the season is not fully into play.

7-2 four or more is the biggest insult since the introduction of betting on Irish Racing. He can only do in the next three years, but considering the fact how many times Nicky will pull him out of races due to a wrong going description this seems an impossible task.
12-1 exactly one is quite generous.

For something to be better both next year and the year after than the best hurdler we’ve seen for ages is extremely unlikely

Extremely unlikely to be heavy two seasons running.

Chance of connections changing their minds and going chasing are extremely small.

So to back Constitution Hill @ 12/1 to not win another Champion Hurdle – let’s say what it is – in effect relying on the best hurdler we’ve seen in ages to regress, falls in more than one Champion hurdle or gets seriously injured or killed.

What great bets we are offered these days. :negative:

If Nico was strongly suggesting he wouldn’t stay (surely he just didn’t recently come to that conclusion) and Hendo suggested Aintree showed that, then what the hell was all this long drawn out nonsense for in the first place?

Depending on just how much last seasons novices improve (Impaire Et Impasse according to Jacobs has grown quite a bit), potentially that will be where the dangers might come from because you can’t see any of last year’s rivals overturning the form – on that note does anyone know whether State Man is sticking to hurdles or going chasing now?

“the possibility that he will face stronger rival(s) next time”

I think the opposite, more likely they will look to run elsewhere to avoid him. Marine Nationale price ranging between 8’s – 25’s for the Champion Hurdle being the case

“Messrs Buckley, Henderson and de Boinville think the Champion Chase not worthy of Constitution Hill”.

I tend to agree with them. I would rather win three Champion Hurdles, instead of one Champion Hurdle, one Arkle and one Champion Chase.
