Don’t believe a word Henderson says – he’s almost in Johnson’s class.
October 23, 2022 at 06:46 #1619681Tbf, Colin, I just learned more about what’s going on with Constitution Hill than I have done in seven months of reading the Racing Post website since Cheltenham.
A lot of people knock this bookie ambassador stuff, but I thought that was an interesting interview and no one is obliged to take any notice of it.
I’d rather have it than not have it.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 23, 2022 at 07:59 #1619689Henderson was one of the few who was in favour of a 5 day festival yet managed to change his opinion but only after the decision to remain at 4 days had been made.
As for this jockeys/trainers bookie ambassadors stuff it makes a farce of the sport and it look corrupt. Do they allow jockeys/trainers to be paid for information by bookmakers in any other countries apart from GB & Ireland? Is it allowed in Australia?

I wonder how many people say this, yet watch the material Unibet generate anyway?
I confess a vested interest – Unibet’s Head Of Marketing is a friend of some 25 years standing – but anyone who has ever worked in the betting industry knows most ante-post markets are incredibly weak, a lot of the short-term from six-day entry ones are just additional marketing when the bookmaker is sponsoring the race in question and turnover is very light.
I would rather have this stuff to watch if I want to than not – it’s an extra option, and apart from the logo on his Gilet and sometimes a banner in the background there’s no hard sell of the sponsors’ product.
I’d say of all the issues racing faces, this is the least of its worries.
I often gently tease my friend that he’s a frustrated racing journalist himself at heart and for sure he is a true in-depth lifelong lover of the game, unlike a lot of the marketing people in the industry.
I found that clip informative – many thanks to “Ghost” for posting it.

His horses at the Cheltenham festival tend to talk for themselvesBlackbeard to conquer the World
October 23, 2022 at 12:32 #1619728I’ve never understood the hate Nicky gets, he may chat some sh*t from time to time but that’s the nature of the sport, he has to protect his owners, his sponsors and even himself! He trains winners in abundance at Cheltenham like noone else from these shores and is one of the best at his job there has ever been, to expect anything more of him is just greedy imo.
It’s not his job to be honest and open, it’s his job to please his owners and train winners.
October 23, 2022 at 12:50 #1619736It’s because he’s posh and myopically-focussed on training Cheltenham Festival winners.
And his jockey Nico De Boinville gets the same on social media – partly simply because of his name, I reckon.
I’ve met them both, both are really nice blokes, Henderson’s Cheltenham Festival record speaks for itself and I defy anyone to name a more balls of steel ride than the one De Boinville gave Sprinter Sacre to nail Un De Sceaux and secure the horse’s second Champion Chase.
One modern buzzword is “narrative” and Henderson is no respecter of the old school season-long NH narrative – he only cares about the “Fez.”
But when I’m on Constitution Hill at 3s for the Champion Hurdle that’s a positive boon so I’m down with it.
Eff Newcastle and Kempton – I just want to see him ready to run for his life at Cheltenham in March and he’s with the right bloke to maximise the chances of that happening.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"October 24, 2022 at 18:54 #1619992I’m with you there Ian, all that matters to me is whether I can trust a trainer to get a horse ready in time for an intended target – and this chap makes no secret of the fact that Cheltenham is the target, he gives you a fair run for your money, can’t ask for anything more!
October 25, 2022 at 00:33 #1620052“On constituion hill @3s for the champion hurdle”
Jesus thats a terrible bet, your talking down people backing supreme candidates at big prices this far out, who was the last supreme winner
To do ANYTHING in the champion hurdle? Coming into open company, no seasonal reappearence to go off, one bad run in 5 months your finished pricewiseWish id known you were backing him at 3s
Id have given you better odds just to take your moneyIve been saying it since he was proclaimed the frankel of the jumps here, hes done nothing yet & i suspect he’ll do nothing soon enough
October 25, 2022 at 00:44 #1620053If the price is that terrible ham will you be laying him at the now even better price for yourself of 8/11 on the exchange?
November 12, 2022 at 21:42 #1622863It is entirely possible that the great horse will be reappearing at Ascot seven days hence in the Ascot Hurdle over 2m3f110yds.
Ascot racecourse is just half an hour from me, so rest assured I will be personally guarding his box from arrival to departure.
I think the connections of any horse declared to take him on will be acting in the worst possible disrespectful taste.
The racing media should have just about worked out how a walkover works by now and I expect a succession of them leading up to Champion Hurdle Day when Dermot Browne will come out of retirement to partner Honeysuckle in a match and accidentally lose 15 lengths at the start.

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 13, 2022 at 10:39 #1622922Chezza could be in for a treat at Ascot next week. As well as Constitution Hill, L’Homme Pressé and Edwardstone could be making their seasonal reappearances.
I might go, depending upon the weather.
November 13, 2022 at 10:47 #1622927I haven’t been to an Ascot Jumps meeting in absolute donkeys years – I think Gaye Brief ran last time I was there!
I always think the Jumps course is, well, quite a long way away on the inside of the Flat circuit.
Still, the open ditch on the run down to Swinley Bottom, the annoying mobile BBC Grandstand camera that must have put off at least one horse and made it fall at every meeting, the ditch four out, remembering hearing on the radio Bula win the 2m Black & White Whiskey Chase, as the big race then was in the 1970s, on the way to a Sheffield United home game, jumpers for goalposts – bit of history coming my way on Saturday!

It's the "Millwall FC" of Point broadcasts: "No One Likes Us - We Don't Care"November 13, 2022 at 21:57 #1623070Ben, believe it or not when i say im laying a horse i genuinely am, ill be laying him as much as i possibly can until he meets honeysuckle or any proper open clsss g1 hurdler, which, may not be until march, i have money laying currently if youll match it, feel free
Betting any horse @3s before the jumps season even starts for a race in march is nuts, off the back of a supreme win or any novice race 9/10 times will prove to be a mistake also, theres been many “superstars” the last few years completely fail in doing so
And ill happily take everyones money against mine at those prices, assuming him and honeysuckle actually make the race through a flawless season, how short would he go? Indont think hed be much shorter than 4/6, so laying him under 2/1 this far out from a laying perspective is a dream for me
I fully see where everyones coming from, but theres a 25 page thread here about a horse who won a supreme lol
November 13, 2022 at 23:53 #1623084That’s completely fair enough ham and it is a game of opinions after all, but I like to think I’m a good judge and it would seem the good folk of this forum who’ve been watching racing for longer than I have feel they’re good judges too given the length of this thread. I never go overboard about a horse unless I genuinley believe it’s a freak, I’ve only gone OTT in the pre-emptive hype about 3 horses in my time watching racing and those were Frankel, Sprinter Sacre and Flightline, I like to think I was correct on all 3 and I don’t plan on being wrong this time
