CH has returned home Hendo said a few things though not excuses. The horse has sore muscles and in the back. Wonder if those heavy falls have contributed to that on short space time Cheltenham , Aintree
Will spend summer out in field, but no retirement plansVf x
May 4, 2025 at 01:25 #1729374True, Sprinter’s heart problem came to light at Sandown, Green’. But for whatever reason he was also a long way below form (Timeform have him 17 lbs below his best) in Ireland… And although he’d also been as much below his best sometimes when winning elsewhere, he’d always won easily before. Whereas in Ireland he had no more in hand than the winning distance.
Value Is EverythingMay 4, 2025 at 02:44 #1729377That was the year he did Cheltenham, Aintree and Punchestown Festivals which is always a tough ask, that monster performance at Cheltenham was followed just 23 days later by his Aintree win (his first and last try at 2m4f over fences where he beat Cue Card easily) and then just 19 days after that he went to Punchestown (where Sizing Europe got with 5½L of him compared to the 19L thrashing he got at Cheltenham).
Even after winning those first two races very easily, it no doubt took a lot out of him and I think after that Punchestown race Hendo said he was a very tired horse due to having run at all three Festivals and being that his next race was the one at Kempton where he had the heart issue, I wouldn’t be surprised if all that played a big part in him shying away from taking his top horses to Punchestown (Altior never made the trip as a hurdler or chaser).
May 4, 2025 at 11:17 #1729395All good points LD.
I just think if something has been successful in the past for Hendo he wants to do it again.
If a horse/s have been less successful at something Hendo is less likely to do it again.
Whether there are other logical reasons for those things happening or not.Value Is EverythingMay 6, 2025 at 17:05 #1729621Not had any broadband for 10 days .. Nightmare , watched the Punchestown race ( after backing State Man ) and what was going to unfold at Aintree before the fall unfolded here , the horse has issues mentally and physically , I’ll be honest it wouldn’t amaze me looking at how unhappy the owner is that a change of scenery is thought about , as for the joke entry in the Ascot Gold Cup ….No
May 8, 2025 at 17:52 #1729802Horse mot in love with racing to my eyes. Hard to tell if he will come back a force. We shall see.
May 8, 2025 at 19:10 #1729811You couldn’t back him that’s for sure , the fear factor is gone now to , don’t believe for one second he’ll run on the flat , summer off then plan a proper campaign
May 10, 2025 at 01:34 #1729919I think hes gone as a top level horse , however if he fronts in entries for FF in Nov and is still 14s for Champion iam going to find a few notes to throw on just on the off chance some miracle is performed and the up and comers drop away .
May 16, 2025 at 15:15 #1730504May 16, 2025 at 18:20 #1730528I don’t even think that Royal Ascot was ever on their minds. It was just to pretend the horse was fine and probably the machine Nicky wants us to think he might be. Running CH in a Flat race is like a billion to one shot.
May 16, 2025 at 18:41 #1730530Of course it wasn’t just more of the circus surrounding this horse. Wouldn’t hear any of this drama if someone else was the trainer.
The more I know the less I understand.
May 16, 2025 at 20:16 #1730546Have you noticed how the path of Constitution Hill’s career is kinda shadowing a somewhat spooky comparison to that of Spirit Son … a horse owned by Mr Buckley who seemed a world beater but withered away into oblivion.
May 16, 2025 at 20:28 #1730547Spirit Son suffered a tendon injury and, later, a neck issue, meaning he never ran again after his novice campaign.
Totally different scenario.
May 16, 2025 at 22:05 #1730556Both horses suffered different health problems early in their careers. The trajectory of it.
Hopefully, Constitution Hill will resume his racing and live a much longer life. - AuthorPosts
