My issue with plastic hurdles is that the hardness of the horses hooves/shoes are more likely to slip off (or even on) the plastic potentially causing a messy fall.
Wood on the other hand might create a bit more friction thus allowing the horse to flatten the hurdle instead and, quite possibly, avoiding a fall.A bit like trying to compare real turf with astro turf…
March 12, 2025 at 04:48 #1722934Ginger what’s stupid about what I said ? , there’s a few on here needing to calm down , the hill got beat yesterday , I know that hurts a few but he did , he’s only won one champion hurdle .. Fact , if some want to think he’s the greatest ever then that’s there opinion but Istrabaq won 3 champions , common sense would say that’s more of an achievement
March 12, 2025 at 06:06 #1722936I think the plastic ones stop a horse putting leg through the hurdle and getting it caught and having leg snapped on top bar of old hurdle as it powers through .
State Man v lucky not to have broken his neck .March 12, 2025 at 06:07 #1722937As for CH , they will dodge Punchestown iam sure .
He may be back in November, or Christmas.March 12, 2025 at 07:13 #1722940“Ginger what’s stupid about what I said ? , there’s a few on here needing to calm down”.
Agree HDLG. People can disagree as much as they want but they should at least keep it respectful. Ginger’s one word comment offers nothing constructive and is out of order.
All this talk about which horse is the best is an argument for the pub but nothing more. I think we should just enjoy these horses on their own terms. Yes, there are ratings but they are open to question, even Arkle’s.
All the comparisons in the last few comments are with recent hurdlers. No one has mentioned Monksfield, or Sea Pigeon or (in the opinion of Timeform) the best hurdler, Night Nurse.
In truth, most of the time we cannot say for certain which is the best in any sport. Apart from the occasional outlier, like a Don Bradman in cricket.

It’s unequivocally a greater achievement to win three championship races than one.
However, too many people confuse the number of wins (and/or the names of the races won) with the actual quality of performance. The two are totally different things.
March 12, 2025 at 10:18 #1722971So … let’s say that, if Constitution Hill and State Man didn’t fall, who would’ve won?
March 12, 2025 at 10:21 #1722974In answer to that question, on all known form Constitution Hill would have won.

We’ll find out at Punchestown.
March 12, 2025 at 10:35 #1722983He’s far from a poor jumper but that fall might just let the horse know he can’t be taking so many risks taking off outside the wings. He should go to Ireland if no ill-effects from the fall and I would expect him to win comprehensively. He’s still by far the best around, albeit not the ‘champ’.
March 12, 2025 at 12:07 #1723018I’ve watched the replay back a couple of times and I’m not sure how much of a difference it makes but Brighterdaysahead knocked the hurdle with her back legs and the hurdle moved forward. Had that hurdle not moved Constitution Hill makes it. The thing is though because CH takes off a long way back that kind of mistake is always a possibility of sorts
Blackbeard to conquer the World
March 12, 2025 at 12:09 #1723019I noticed that yesterday, Nathan. Surprised that nobody on RTV mentioned it.
March 12, 2025 at 17:45 #1723195Ok it’s been 5 hours without a new comment ….. Will they keep the hill over hurdles or will the temptation of a fence be to much ….
March 12, 2025 at 19:39 #1723224A v good hurdler, who races sparingly, with a few exceptional performances, but the soap opera has to stop….
March 12, 2025 at 21:31 #1723253103 pages about a Supreme and CH winner…… Marine Nationale also won a Supreme and a QMCC now.
March 13, 2025 at 00:58 #1723273It does seem that some people would criticise a dead horse for not running enough times / to form.

——————-Really CAS? It was constructive because the one word says all that needs to be said about the previous post.
Comments about the horses should be respectful too.
Yes, anyone can have an opinion about any rating or any horse. But be aware that some people will understand a hell of a lot more about the horses and / or ratings than others… And therefore some comments will be treated with the disdain they deserve.
I’ll explain more after Cheltenham has finished.
