Remains a rather mediocre jumper of obstacles. Hope he is okay though. The greatness talk should be utter rubbish from now on.
March 11, 2025 at 16:29 #1722742He put up one genuinely great performance. Since then he has put up some very good performances but nothing to match it. He was lucky to get away with it at the last hurdle two years ago.
I suppose it depends how greatness is measured. If it is about longevity, then he falls short. But I still can’t forget that Supreme win, the highest ever rating given to a novice.
March 11, 2025 at 16:29 #1722743Henderson wants to go to Punchestown but depends on the owner.
The more I know the less I understand.
March 11, 2025 at 16:32 #1722749Agree with you about the Supreme perfromance, CAS. But he would be nowhere near a Istabraq or Hurricane Fly when just looking back at the past 25 years and I also called him a poor jumper of obstacles on different occasions.
March 11, 2025 at 18:54 #1722830Still the best hurdler I’ve seen at his best and today doesn’t change that.
Also, how has he only put up one genuinely great performance?
His 9 length demolition of State Man was also great and he did it at a canter.
His 12l & 17L demolitions of Epatante were also extremely impressive considering he barely broke sweat to achieve those margins.
We’ve seen again today just how good Lossiemouth is and CH beat her when nowhere near full fitness.
He could’ve won last time out by half the track had de Boinville allowed it.
Regards his jumping, he has become increasingly careless. Most notably this season but his overall jumping is still very clean and fast. Todays fall will probably do him the world of good but it’s just a crying shame it had to happen in a champion hurdle.
Istabraq was also a great horse and jumper but let’s not forget he fell twice.
Does the style of those falls look familiar??
And Ruby, Hurricane Fly would’ve been absolutely hammered by CH. He was a great horse but much closer to the level of Honeysuckle and State Man than to Constitution Hill.
Both Annie Power & Faugheen would have beaten him also.March 11, 2025 at 19:13 #1722834Istabraq won 3 champions though … and didn’t fall when it really mattered , the hill will win 2 at most …
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 11, 2025 at 19:27 #1722838Constitution Hill wrapped in cotton wool. Istabraq (23 from 29) and The Fly (24 from 32) ran all over the place no matter what the ground was. CH only got as far as Aintree or Newcastle….
March 11, 2025 at 19:36 #1722840HDLG, A horse doesn’t know whether he’s in a Champion hurdle or not for Gods sake. It’s just bad luck Constitution Hills fall happened in one.
March 11, 2025 at 19:39 #1722843Ruby, you’ll be eating those words when he turns up at Punchestown and makes a mockery of Lossiemouth and State Man on home soil. I’m predicting all 3 will meet.
Also, the horse can’t help how many times he’s ran. If Nicky ran him 6 times a season do you think he’d lose much? Not a chance.
March 11, 2025 at 19:45 #1722846Okay GM, we’ll talk after the Punchestown race. You can call me whatever you want afterwards.
March 11, 2025 at 19:47 #1722847These new style hurdles they introduced last year could they be making certain horses jump differently at speed techniques., I know there mean to be safer
Constitution Hill remember his last race the mistake at the last, and Hendon saying we’ll at least it wasn’t in the champion hurdle but he comes downVF x
March 11, 2025 at 19:52 #1722849Stay calm GM , the fall wasn’t bad luck it poor technique , he’s got away with it before but he didn’t today , I really hope he goes to Ireland but the fact is at this time he’s won one champion …
Pick 3 on Saturday champion 2025/2026
March 11, 2025 at 20:24 #1722857Golden Cygnet only won a Supreme yet I’d take him over plenty of multiple champion hurdle winners.
Katchit and Punjabi won Champion hurdles. They must be equal to Constitution Hill then as they’re all on 1 a piece??
Greatness shouldn’t only be judged on how much you win but in the style you win also.Maybe Constitution Hill never wins another Champion Hurdle, time will tell.
However. I don’t think any hurdler in history beats the 2022 & 2023 version of him and for me, that’s Greatness.
March 11, 2025 at 20:28 #1722858GM it’s a view not a fact , the greats deliver when it matters , the hill didn’t deliver today

The same number as State Man…and Golden Ace.
It’s a funny old game.
His hurdling is brilliant but that low fast, momentum saving, race winning technique is always going to be inches from disaster.
Honeysuckle gave them a bit more air but this safer technique meant she never fell (IIRC she never even looked like falling) and was sufficient to win her two champion hurdles. It’s easier to preserve the mystique of a horse that rarely runs, or who falls before the race hots up. State Man has won 10 open grade 1s to CHill’s 7. They’re both 8 years old. At that age, Hurricane Fly had also won 7 open grade 1s, and that year he came 3rd in the Champion Hurdlevwon by Rock on Ruby. It would have been better for the mystique had he fallen early..but then, he had already sullied the precious row of 1s by getting beaten on his first open start. It’s what he did afterwards that is most impressive- won another 12 open G1s including another champion hurdle. So at the point of that less stellar 3rd at 8 years old, he had more success in front of him than behind him.
Now that Constitution Hill has dirtied up his lovely row of 1s in the formbook with a letter, and is an 8yo, perhaps the (kid) gloves will come off.
March 11, 2025 at 20:33 #1722866He’s trained by Nicky … They won’t

Brighterdaysahead is a legend then, if you pick her previous run and squint a bit.
