I have to say i like Lydia as well she says what she thinks unlike other media people who think what they say in case they offend, there are many in that mould.
November 22, 2010 at 17:55 #329268Don’t think there’s anyone out there who cares more passionately about racing and every aspect of it, whether it be the safety and welfare of the horses and jockeys or the integrity of the sport itself. I don’t know the details behind what has happened but I do know that, liberated as we may be, a woman will quite often have to shout louder than a man to be heard and then be accused of being hysterical for doing so.
November 22, 2010 at 18:19 #329273It’s time for Racing to Unite in the common interest…and vote for Lee Westwood.
Your estimable campaign is doomed to fail Glenn. Unstoppable forces aid the McCoy bid
WESTMINSTER has joined the Racing For Change led campaign to crown Tony McCoy as BBC Sports Personality Of The Year.
The joint chairmen of the All Party Group on Racing & Bloodstock posted an Early Day Motion on Wednesday supporting the champion jump jockey.
Laurence Robertson, Conservative MP for Tewkesbury, whose constituency includes Cheltenham, and Mansfield’s Labour MP Alan Meale set the ball rolling on Wednesday.
By mid-afternoon they had been joined as signatories by Philip Davies (Con, Shipley), Ronnie Campbell (Lab, Blyth Valley), Guy Opperman (Con, Hexham), Fiona O’Donnell (Lab, East Lothian) and Gavin Williamson (Con, South Staffordshire).

… it’s uncanny it really is
With these dudes on its side can anyone be surprised that RFC, BHA, REL, ROA, THG, JC…XYZ believe it’s the government who wields the most power in British Racing
Boo-hoo, go run to mummy
November 22, 2010 at 18:34 #329277If AP is being supported by MPs in his bid for bbc sports personality of the year then he is really in trouble a bigger bunch of chancers you will not find.

Let’s get it on and get Lydia crowned as hack of the Year for having the courage to forsake the gravy train and stand up for the punting public. It only takes a few minutes to zap an email off to em.
November 22, 2010 at 19:48 #329289I agree with all the comments on here supportive of Lydia Hislop, a fine journalist and broadcaster who is not afraid to say what she thinks. Long may that continue.
On the subject of McCoy and the Sports Personality award, I can’t help thinking that a "victory" which is clearly the result of a coordinated campaign by the racing authorities might turn out to be no victory at all and could well prove counter-productive for the sport.
November 22, 2010 at 19:54 #329291You’re too late I’m afraid Dexter. The shortlist for Journalist of the Year, with the winner to be announced at the HWPA awards in early December, has already been announced.
The candidates are
Chris McGrath (Independent)
Peter Thomas (Racing Post)
Brough Scott (Racing Post)
Chris Cook (Guardian)November 22, 2010 at 19:56 #329293I am totally shocked by some of the condemnation of Tony McCoy because he has criticised a journalist. Please allow the guy to have his own feelings on this matter and please someone reproduce Ms Hislops’ comments if we are going to be so consumed by this. Also let us consider that Ms Hislop is the aggressor and McCoy has the right to defend himself. Jump jockeys take enormous risks and I don’t believe it is possible for anyone else but the jockey and/or the trainer to know the truth about the horse, his ability,or his willingness to race.
I endorse the jockey when he said ‘How many winners has she ridden ?’ Let’s have the facts before we indulge in our British passion for putting down our sporting heroes !November 22, 2010 at 20:01 #329296McCoy has had a forum to offer his views on Lydia’s criticism. Sadly, he has refused to take it by not appearing on RUK and giving his version of events.
He has taken his ball home and there isn’t a game going on any more.
November 22, 2010 at 20:06 #329297Also let us consider that Ms Hislop is the aggressor and McCoy has the right to defend himself.
But that’s the whole point, John. He’s refusing to defend himself. He won’t talk to Racing UK. It’s behaviour normally associated with the school playground.
As for the "how many winners has she ridden" point, how would you feel if you went in a restaurant and were served a terrible meal only to be told by the chef when you complained that you’ve no right to criticise because you’ve never done his job?
November 22, 2010 at 20:34 #329305I think it’s only fair to point out that McCoy was obviously riding to orders as I haven’t heard that Jonjo has complained to the stewards about the ride. Maybe Ap dosen’t want to defend someone else’s decision about tactics.
It’s one thing to refuse an interview it’s quite another to victimise the journalist. If RUK sacked Lydia tomorrow then presumably AP would be back on to talk about what he wants to talk about. There’s a touch of the Tiger Woods about AP’s demeanour in all this and we all know what happened to him.
Peter Thomas for Racing Journalist of the Year. Amazing stuff.
November 22, 2010 at 20:40 #329307seems an odd comparison, riding a ton of horse at 40 mph over 10 fences, or cooking egg and chips.
November 22, 2010 at 20:45 #329309I’d like to see Tony McCoy extricate himself from the mysterious McManus-O’Neill-McLernon set-up.
I commented in the Get Me Out Of Here thread a few weeks ago that McCoy doesn’t look comfortable in his job.
His interview today on ATR was enlightening. He bemoaned the fact that he has few "Saturday horses" to ride this season, meaning that he was missing out on all the big rides in the big races.
Well, that was always going to be the case when he threw in his lot with O’Neill and McManus.
November 22, 2010 at 20:48 #329311I don’t get that Barry.
There’s a very bad taste about these jockeys attacking this woman. The flat boys boycotted her on the BBC and AP has been on her case for ages. What has she done except given an opinion. Whatever happened to free speech? Could you imagine AP trying it on with Nick Luck whose father is a member of the Jockey Club and a Senior Steward. No chance whatsoever. AP picks his fights better than David Haye.
November 22, 2010 at 20:50 #329312seems an odd comparison, riding a ton of horse at 40 mph over 10 fences, or cooking egg and chips.
Give me Lydias egg and chips over AP"s attempt at riding Denman anyday!
November 22, 2010 at 20:51 #329313McCOy doesnt take criticism well. I remember once on the Morning Line some journalist crticised a bad ride by him and he responded with " how many winners have you had"

When you compare holding a microphone to potentially having falls like Paddy Mangan then there is no comparison.
McCoy is in the right here.
