On a slightly brighter note after Saurdays National, Mr Johnson has, in my view, taken the correct decision and retired the old boy.
He is to spend his retirement at Timmy Murphys place. Glad to see him retire in one piece and I hope that he has a long and happy one, as having won around £800,000, he owes nobody anything.April 11, 2011 at 20:24 #349870I went to see him unsaddle at Newcastle recently. Good National winner, hope he enjoys long and happy retirement.
April 11, 2011 at 20:42 #349874On the shelf above my desk I have a photo of him looking over his stable door; it feels good to know he’ll be having a happy and hopefully very long retirement.
April 11, 2011 at 20:47 #349875He beat my selection in the 2008 National, the bugger.

Hope he has an enjoyable retirement, well deserved.
April 11, 2011 at 20:50 #349876So glad he returned safe and sound on Saturday and hope he enjoys many years of retirement from racing – but he might enjoy doing something – would be great to see a National winner in those retrained racehorse classes for instance.
April 11, 2011 at 21:17 #349881The only National winner I’ve ever backed, hope he has a long, happy and peaceful retirement.

So don't run, just like the others always do
April 12, 2011 at 17:54 #350010The right decision.Comply or Die owes nothing.I echo those who wish him a long and happy retirement.
I think Well Chief is also at Timmy Murphy’s place?
It was good to see Murphy handle the old boy sympathetically on his last 2 starts, pulling him up when tired. I cannot see the fixation in exhausted horses "getting round" Aintree

I also think that he handled the situation perfectly and in the horses best interests.
Timmy is a true pro and will be sadly missed when he too retires – one of the best jockeys of his generation in my opinionApril 12, 2011 at 19:38 #350028Here Here Lingfield

I don’t think that will be too far away. Doesn’t ride too many these days and David Johnson doesn’t have many horses now.
I see part owner Andy Stewart took him off Ghizao on Saturday- horse still made another serious blunder though.
Married to Ray Green’s daughter, the couple have a farm, stables or whatever it is for the future.April 13, 2011 at 11:07 #350095So glad he returned safe and sound on Saturday and hope he enjoys many years of retirement from racing – but he might enjoy doing something – would be great to see a National winner in those retrained racehorse classes for instance.
I was delighted to watch Bindaree competing in the ROR class at the Festival of the horse at Stoneleigh last year – judged by Bryan Smart.
February 9, 2014 at 22:05 #467680He was on show at Exeter today and loved all the attention he was getting.

Always remember I backed him to win the 2008 Grand National and also King John’s Castle who came 2nd. I thought King John’s Castle was a certainty to win the 2010 GN and what did that littlel monkey do..he stuck his hooves in at the start and watched 39 runners go charging towards the first fence

This year I’m hoping Tidal Bay will win the Grand National and be retired also, another fairy story waiting to happen..nobody deserves to win this more than he does.
