I’d worry about his jumping too Ham and actually mentioned reverting to hurdles as well. He’s never been fully fluent and i wonder has than paid to his career, ie, the setbacks. He does need to be more fluent, he’s only won 1 g1 in open company and upped in class vs proper opposition he’ll end up on his back more often than not.

Reverting him to hurdles makes a lot of sense. Looking back at todays race, none of his opponents ever looked like a future Cheltenham Festival winner.
But, how many times will he run before spring? Wouldn’t be surprised if he’d be given a three month break or so. Run a prep race in February and then straight to Cheltenham.

365 are tightening up now though Vautour. They are suspending the cash outs for horses before they run, during the race and also for a period after the race. So if they disappoint you are left in limbo. Also a lot quicker on picking up on injury rumours, with Malone Road you can’t cash out for anything ATM.

Ham, I have no doubt about his ability to win races. I even think that he might be the best “Flat” horse among the NH athletes. In Flat races for jumpers from 2m up to 3m2f there wouldn’t be many horses around that could match strides with. But his jumping was always very worrying, just think of the numerous times when he simply walked through the fence.

He absolutely tanked through the race today, pulled Townends arms out and gave him no choice but to go to the front way from home

Once tout est permis got an easy lead and slowed the tempo you could immediately see Townend restraining him

For that reason id be worried about him for the Ryanair as well as the jumping, horses like frodon and defi will be taking a length out of him at every fence

Mullins said before the race he eouldnt be targeted at anything specific they will just take it race by race and run him whenever they can

Ascot Gold Cup if he were mine
After such a long lay off, they wouldn’t have put him in half cocked and the late money too would suggest he was pretty fit for a 1st time out run. He had weight from Monalee but even so that was impressive the way he tanked around. I’m not sure about the jumping either but Mullins will/should do what’s best. Think it’s just great to see him back in good form.

That stats fine and well but hes hardly had a chance to prove himself in open group 1 company has he? Bar the fall and getting injured the other year, a solid second to an extremely top class UDS

What relevance does the opposition have in accordance to himself actually falling? His figures as a novice show hes fine and well at that speed over a fence and at cheltenham

Like i said mullins is not one to make them jump alot at home and id be surprised if he
Did much if any jumping before today

Flat ruby? He very much has the pedigree for a fence and very much looks like he needs a fence and i do not see any reason whatsoever to go over a hurdle having fallen once in 14 chase starts after a very tough time getting fit…

Did he look today like he lacked enthusiasm for a fence?

His arkle win was grand around cheltenham, i highly highly doubt horses like defi du seuil and frodon are in douvans league and theyd need a miracle to beat him if he turned up 100% fit

At this rate horses like great field etc should all be over hurdles?

He’s not really which is sad, we could’ve had some exciting races if he had. However for me he’s always had a frailty over them, throwing in the odd bad jump in most races he’s run in. Testament to his ability how easy he wins races over 2m doing it. I just think it’s probable that his jumping hasn’t helped with the frailties.

Opposition racing over 2m at open championship level round Cheltenham is a much tougher test than novice. It’s not surprise he fell when back there. If jumping frailties are going to show it’s going to be then..

Mullins knows best of course but it’s just my view that he’d have a greater chance of staying on the racetrack over hurdles!
