Bored of all the Covid stuff now and I intend to forget it – at least until Johnson locks down England just after Christmas.

Let’s have a laugh instead. I have just watched the Christmas episode of “Rising Damp”, starring the great Leonard Rossiter. Absolutely superb.

What are your favourite Christmas comedies?

Sadly, I’m not a fan of “comedy” or indeed “comedians.”

Maureen Lipman is worried the art form may die out – tbh I wouldn’t mourn its passing.

But I haven’t always felt this way and I’m sure there are Christmas “comedies” from my youth which, while struggling to amuse me, would at least induce nostalgia.

    Porridge, something like that.

What a coincidence, last night was watching Morecombe & Wise 1977 Christmas show on DVD, they knew about comedy. Got the entire Christmas shows even their ITV shows on DVD. The also showing on BBC2 on Christmas Day, 2 lost episodes found by Eric’s son Gary which hasn’t been aired since their first as showing in 1970

You've got to accentuate the positive.
    Eliminate the negative.
    Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.

Got to agree with Bernard Manning on this, comedy is comedy he had no time for alternative comedians as they were called in his days.

Looking forward to the GHOSTS Christmas special. I like gentle humour with a bit of pathos. The You’re Dead to Me Christmas edition is good, too: Mediaeval Christmas. But then I like all horrible histories spin offs. I so miss going to the pantomime at Christmas. Oh yes I do……

    Sunshine Desserts?

    And that’s just from memory.

Anyway, Ricky is right to be irked at being called a comedian when the reality is he’s about as funny as a blood clot.

Speaking of Rising Damp, the series not the film, didn’t occur to me that Richard Beckinsale wore a wig. But he was also doing Porridge at the same time, both excellent comedies.

Is anyone else seeing a contradiction here?

Dave Allen is my all-time favourite comedian. The subjects he touched upon and the stories he told still crease me after all those years gone by. His sketches were hilarious.
