after all its just a bunch of handicaps and group 3s so why do ch4 still show it when they dont bother with the likes of punchestown and the craven meeting?
if its just because its a unusual course then why dont they show cartmel?May 9, 2013 at 08:18 #439101Because Wayne Rooney and his surprisingly orange wife Waynetta might turn up.

May 9, 2013 at 10:06 #439110Have to agree, good racing but no more.
May 9, 2013 at 14:00 #439124Because potential Derby winners run there? Shergar comes to mind.

Wow 1 Derby winner in 30+ years yeah that’s a good reason to show this overhyped racing.
May 9, 2013 at 15:44 #439134A lot of horses don’t show their true form at Chester and the draw bias makes it a bit of a lottery.
Beautiful picturesque course though steeped in history.
Things turn out best for those who make the best of how things turn out...May 9, 2013 at 16:54 #439140It’s too popular with the drinking chavocracy for the real racing fan to enjoy any more. Too big a crowd, too many stalls, tents, screens, food outlets. It’s lost its charm and nowadays I avoid it like the plague. (Unless the family have a runner there where the hospitality is exceptional.) Prize money’s not bad either.
Future Derby winners? Don’t get as many as York in their trials, what’s more they don’t always win there. Oath and Kris Kin won at the May meeting before Derby glory.
A little quiz. What were the names of the 3 horses who got beat at the same Chester May meeting and then, one went on to win the Derby, another the Arc and the third was a St Leger winner?
One plus for Chester though is that, if you’re a young male on the pull and have lots of cash to splash, Chester is the totty capital of UK Racing (so I’m told!)May 9, 2013 at 19:05 #439153What were the names of the 3 horses who got beat at the same Chester May meeting and then, one went on to win the Derby, another the Arc and the third was a St Leger winner?
I’d say we’re looking at Quest For Fame (beaten by Belmez in the Chester Vase), Saumarez and Michelozzo in 1990.
