Does anyone else think we may have seen the Derby winner in today’s Dee Stakes?
Not me. What did he beat today ?We’ve had a fairly good look at ‘the Admiral’ now . It have to be a bad Derby if he’s going to win, imho.
Right, so the above begs the question what is going to win ? Obviously, It’s difficult to say at the moment. I think that the Ballysax Stakes looks to have been a good renewal this year, so the winner may well come out of that. 16/1 is still available about the winner , which looks a value wager, imho. I’d like the favorite if the ground is soft on the big day. No other lines of form would have me running to the bookies at this present moment in time.

Seemed to me that Scorpion ran his race but possibly doesn’t stay 1m6 so well against the classier stayers (the horses he beat in his leger were substandard).
Ask looks to have improved and looks to be a major player in the staying races this season..
Yeh Ask looks like another Stoute improving older horse, very smooth victory, looked to have plenty left in the tank. Could be a force from 12 furlongs to 2m.
May 11, 2007 at 17:54 #57998To be honest, I couldn’t contemplate having a bet in the Derby until O’Brien has sorted out what he’s running. I’d be interesting in backing Admiralofthefleet at the current 20/1 if I knew he was definitely being targeted at the race. Of the Derby contenders to have shown their hand for the stable, I prefer the claims of Admiralofthefleet to any of Duke of Marmalade, Soldier of Fortune and Eagle Mountain.
In terms of what did he beat? I think the race looks well up to scratch. Desert Dew is almost listed class judged on his handicap win on reappearance whilst Monzante was beaten a head by the Dewhurst fifth Rallying Cry at Kempton last year. It was surprising to see Habalwatan so close, though he was unexposed on turf at this trip and there seemed no fluke about it.

What he beat today isn’t really that important, imo.
He could only beat whatever ran in the race, and he did it convincingly enough after his fto disappointment.
He did beat some decent yardsticks quite comfortably in the Royal Lodge, and on ground that would be against him, so I certainly wouldn’t write him off on the strength of today’s run.
MM
According to the way he ran today, and his jockey’s comments after the race, I would think it unlikely that Ask will be raced over staying trips in the near future.;)
Must have been switched over to ATR, and missed Mc Evoy interview. Thanks for putting me wiser reet.
May 11, 2007 at 18:57 #58001On breeding, I can’t see Admiralofthefleet staying a mile and a half. Didn’t really think he looked suited to Epsom either.
May 11, 2007 at 19:20 #58002I wish all of you Admiral supporters all the very best. It’s just that I don’t think that his form with Medicine Path ( respectable form but has only ever won a Maiden), Kirklees ( a Group 1 performer – IN ITALY), Desert Dew ( a top Handicap winner) is going to get it done in an average Derby, if that is what we’re going to get this year. Not too long to go to find out now, though. Bring it on.
May 11, 2007 at 19:57 #58003Have to agree with Sal, this horse has virtually no chance of getting 12f.

Sal/Venusian
On breeding, you may well be right; on racecourse evidence I would think he has every chance.
His entries suggest his trainer thinks it possible, too.
