Went to Chepstow for the Welsh National today; enjoyed the racing but won’t be rushing back.

£26 for Tatts and £4 for a racecard. Pretty pricey for the facilities on offer.

But what really annoyed me was the way that access to Tatts made you feel like a second class citizen.

Parked in the car park and crossed road to main entrance. ‘Oh no sir, grandstand entrance is down the road’.

Walked 200 yards down road – everything locked. Gesticulated wildly at staff inside. Told to cross back to car park and take underpass. Eventually got in.

We wewren’t the only ones flummoxed by the byzantine arrangements. There were about a dozen people including one disabled guy wandering about on the side of the road trying to work out how to get in. What a farce. When I went to the office to provide some feedback was told that we should have been able to get into the car park alongside the straight but this turn-in was not signed from the road.

I’ve been there before but not for a few years. I don’t remember the Club occupying the entire area behind the Main Stand. In my view all customers should be able to access the course through the main entrance – sending folk halfway to St Arvans through an underpass is frankly b*llocks.

Had a much better customer experience at Fakenham on New Years Day.

The best thing about the tatts area was the cafe which was really good. The rest felt like the silver ring on most courses.

Totally agree, have been to Chepstow a couple of times but am not a fan of the course and found the facilities to be very poor. Another non-success story for Northern Racing.

We went a couple of years ago instead of our usual trip to Bangor, and I don’t want to go back. We also had trouble finding our way from the car park to the correct gate; you can’t see the horses properly in the pre parade ring or get up close to any of the fences. The drive there was nice, the scenery both on the way and at the racecourse being spectacular, but it’s Bangor for me from now on. The one thing I do regret is that they had pony racing later in the day and I would imagine that there were certain Twiston Davies’ offspring taking part. That would have been good to see in a ‘before they were famous’ sort of way. I understand that the course was much nicer before they messed around with it.
