Will AP stay on? Has anything been said?

Wouldn’t think so bit to early for any announcements yet i think but i think they will stick to AP in my opinion even though it’s the wrong choice!

Before the race, the RP poll had Kauto Star at 52% and Denman at 48%.

Kauto Star now has a whopping 74% of the vote, Denman 26%.

He’s also a general 4/6 shot to win the race for a third time. Master Minded is also quoted the same price for Champion Chase glory.

Those racing post polls are a lot of cack. It stayed 52-48% for a number of days, since they first opened the poll. They have a hype agenda. I can’t see Imperial Commander finishing ahead of Cooldine to be honest. I think Twinston Davies is still taking a lot of heart from the season re-appearance, but Kauto will be different gravy come March as you all well know. Even a place would be tough for I.C. I’d go with Kauto, Denman and Cooldine, in that order.

can’t see anything beating KS now; a fully fit and firing Denman would have had a chance, but he was clearly not right. I’ll be having a decent bet, even at odds on

Just seen the Aon. Anyone backing Denham needs their head checking IMHO. Was beaten already and would have been beaten if he’d stood up. Total shadow of the horse he once was.

    Bit harsh there Zark.

It was only 3 months ago that he annihilated a decent Hennessy field off a massive weight, all the superlatives were coming from all angles that day; you don’t become a bad horse in the space of 3 months. The Aon in my mind was just an off day for Denman, obviously wasn’t used to McCoy’s riding style, and takes a heck of a lot of work to get ready for a race so might not have been quite 100% on the day. After all, he’s an animal and not a machine and can be afforded these bad days every now and again.

To say that he has absolutely no chance for the Gold Cup judged on this one run is ludicrous to me. I expect that on the big day he will at least give KS a good battle as he did last year and the year before where he came out on top. Im sure Nicholls and McCoy will be doing a lot of work with him up until March 19th.

Maybe it’s harsh, Rich, but it’s what I honestly believe. He looked beaten to me. I also believe you need to be harsh in this game. Too many horses given too many excuses on too many occasions.

I can agree with you Zark that when betting on racing it’s more of a deselection process than a selection one and you sometimes have to brutal in your decisions, but I just can’t dismiss Denman for one bad run this season. His Hennessy run was only a few months ago, and he definitely didn’t look a bad horse then. Every horse has their bad days, including Kauto Star, but if you have to put your trust in a trainer in getting them back ready again it’s got to be Paul Nicholls.

First time i’d seen the big fella (Thommo was talking for most of it – One old boy left the ring due to Thommo in full flow!) in the flesh and if i’m honest I was a little disappointed. He didn’t look amazing in the paddock; his coat lacked shine and he looked to need more work.

I also reckon he’s a bit lazier than he used to be and probably would have put his head down again if Niche Market came at him. He did the same in the Hennessy.

Just going to add my 2 penneth, Imperial Commander won’t stay the trip next week.

As much as i would like to see him serve it up to Kauto like he did at Haydock, i cant see it.

Will be a very different ball game at Cheltenham, and i cant see him getting the 3 miles 2 furlongs.

A realistic worry Gaz unlike the misguided, would be racing experts, who seem to think for reasons better known to themselves that Tony McCoy is the wrong man for Denman.

I just watched the man winning on Witchita Lineman R.I.P. again. The horse, through no fault of AP’s missed out half the fences on the course. He would have unseated many a pilot at, at least one fence and I doubt if another jockey outside of Peter Scu or Jonjo would have expended the energy to even try to get him back into the race, let alone win.

As he has shown a thousand times he can ride with finess or fire.

At some time in the race the pressure will be applied and these are exactly the qualities the pilot of Denman will need if he is going to beat Kauto Star.

In my minds eye I can see Kauto winning as he likes but in reality Denman + AP is going to be one tough cookie to crack.

I can’t for one minute take the AON seriously. Quite simply Denman was half baked because PN thought it would be just a case of him turning up…seems like everytime the horse runs a bit below par the village idiot steps up and says he’s not the same horse as he was. They must have been sleeping haystacks on Hennessy day.

PN wanted him right for the Hennessy and he was, he ran him just fit enough to get by in the AON with a view to building him up for the big day.

In 2008 Kauto wasn’t right, in 2009 Denman wasn’t right.

The scene is set and this time hopefully both will be spot on. If Kauto (Haydock) and Denman (AON) turn up it will be a disaster for racing but unless PN has lost all his training skills overnight that just won’t happen

You"re beginning to sound like reet hard Gaz! I can see there being less than 10 runners on the day and i only need 4th place! Poor Reet, you will learn the hard way!

Worried that we may end up with less than 8 horses. Having backed Tricky Trickster and Calgary Bay ante post, do I still get first three having backed them when there were more than 8 runners?

Ante-Post rules stated 1st 3 1/4 odds Moe at the time you had your bets,so you are fine!
