How do you narrow the field to a manageable level? We all have our own ideas on the festival handicaps. (Just in case you are interested), here’s my approach.
1 Get the field down to 3 contenders, or forget the race.
Won’t bore you with the long winded principles of ‘narrowing’, they’re a bit outside the box and open for ridicule. That’s for the later, should you want to feel superior at my expence
?2 Put the horses in order of merit most likely to win goes first, least likely last and the other divides the two. Kind of a reverse to the final of that tele quiz, ‘Pointless’.
3 Decide on which of the three horse to bet on. Maybe bet them all?
4 Hope to make an overall profit on the 4 days of the festival.
5 Have enough money in reserve to drown sorrows, if need be…

Alternative Across The BayMarch 12, 2015 at 12:33 #827869I’m a bit odd in that I prefer the handicaps to the championship races. But I haven’t really had time to look at them properly this year. So I’m just looking at things like course form, first time visors, claimers on board etc. Do like horses priced 33/1; often seem to get a placed horse at that price. Have tiny bets so have to back horses with big prices.
