Only 51 weeks (+1 day) to go.
Champion Hurdle; Faugheen
Champion Chase; Un Des Sceaux
Gold Cup; Vautour. This was a hard one, shaping up to be an incredible race.Hoping they all stay sound
March 16, 2015 at 12:53 #842850Cheltenham is a week later next year starting on Tuesday 15th March so still 52 weeks and one day to wait (about 8,760 hours to go). Just hope I am here to see it. Going to take more care crossing them roads this year

Apparently Paddy Power are giving 16/1 (from 20s) that Mullins wins all 4 Championship races so if you can find the WH winner from that stable then the bet is on. These bookies are generous
March 16, 2015 at 14:39 #843294My idea of a fancy Mullins Lucky 63 would have to be Faugheen 5/4 Champion hurdle, one target only!
Un des Scaeux 6/4 Champion chase, one target only.Annie Power 6/1 World hurdle obvious target rather than the poorer Mares race, she’s proved she is World class.Don Poli 6/1 Gold cup Looks an out and out stayer certainly not a Ryanair horse,’Djakadam’obvious danger though!Douvan 4/1 Arkle again there’s a pattern with Willie Mullins horses and he looks a chaser too.The tricky call is Vautour 3/1 Ryanair a certainty if he took that route and again with Don Poli and Djakadam both Gold Cup types this could be his next year before going onto Gold cup glory the year after.A £1 Lucky 63 returns over £19k.
March 16, 2015 at 14:54 #843337My bets for 2016 are has follows
DON POLI 6/1 Cheltenham gold cup
This fellow a dual festival winner and the further he goes the better he looks not as flashy as Vautour but i see him a stronger stayer.
HARGAM 25/1 EW Champion hurdle
On faster ground i see this horse being very good next year reason he got beat was ground went against him in Triumph on faster ground no doubt in my mind he beat Peace And Co.Yes PAC is smart horse but in France and in UK this horse avoid fast ground he has.Hargam a horse to look out for on fast ground
SIZING JOHN 20/1 To win Arkle
What he did over hurdles was good while no match for Douvan. It is over fences he fufill his potential this trainer is smart with chasers and this one can go to the top.
BLACK HERCULES 33/1 To win RSA Chase
Yes he dissapointed in Albert Bartlett but he is way to big regarded as best staying novice horse in yard.Reason he ran a shocker more down to tatics. He lacks a turn of foot so no idea why he was held up.Back to more postive tatics and fences and you see best of him.

Just like Duffman:-
“Homer Simpson can never die, only the actors that play him”
Just in case though, check with big Dave Prowse and the Green Cross Code, stop, look, listen, wait and then run like ***k.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 16, 2015 at 16:17 #843653My first thought was Djakadam at 16/1 for The Gold Cup 2016 was outstanding value.
He’s lightly raced, he’s only going to be 7yo lining up and he was second at the tender age of six.
In all the hysteria surrounding Coneygree’s win it seems forgotten how close the two year younger horse has gone to beating the Novice.
Road To Riches has less obvious scope than Djakadam but his odds of 25/1 are a tad insulting when you consider Lord Windermere is the same price in a place, having been pulled up this season.
Lord Windowlene at 25/1 has to be the funniest thing I have read in many a year.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 16, 2015 at 17:09 #843809Cheltenham 2015 seemed a bit flat this year, yes the was lots of well fancied horses winning and favourites. But I like some outsiders in the mix a few smaller yards. Don’t know whether it was Channel 4 presentation or what.

The was a few clues for Aintree which could be interesting.

Cheltenham Next year and already the bookies are offering 16/1 for Mullins to win the 4 Championship races.
So next year instead of Cheltenham Festival let’s call it the THE WILLIE MULLINS FESTIVAL
You've got to accentuate the positive.
Eliminate the negative.
Latch on to the affirmative.
Don't mess with mister in between.March 17, 2015 at 13:07 #845208Vautour is no better than even money to stay 3m 2f 110 yards at Cheltenham even on good ground and probably won’t run in it; he may also need to get things his own way. I’d give him a decent chance in the King George, but he will be meeting C&D winners in Silviniaco Conti and Coneygree in a race that will be the opposite of tactical.
There is clearly plenty to come from Don Poli, but he needs to grow up next season and fast – running lazily through his races is endearing in a novice, but he’ll be a fence behind against the grown-ups if he does that in any truly run race. What a fascinating contest the Hennessy would be with Don Poli carrying 11-3 running off 163 and getting lumps from Djakadam and Coneygree.

That would be some Hennessesy. Coneygree is on 172 and Djakadam 168 now so it would be 11-12, 11-8 and 11-3 in that scenario.
Just shows you though. Djakadam made no show off 142 in the Hennessey and damn nearly won the Gold Cup. Reminds me of my ante post shot Jodami, who got beat off 10-3 in The Hennessey and then landed my 33/1 ante-post in the Gold Cup.
Thanks for the good crack. Time for me to move on. Be lucky.
March 17, 2015 at 19:53 #845447I’d love to see Annie Power being given the chnace at one of the big ones, either the Champion Hurdle or going chasing for the Gold Cup. To me the stayers hurdle is a consolation prize. If she was another/stable or owner the ambitions might be higher, but Willie has such ammunition that the stayers hurdle it will probably be

Can see the reasoning behind all of these Darren. When Sizing John won in Leopardstown I thought he looked a chaser so it was encouraging to see him run so well in the Supreme. He’ll probably have to beat Douvan to win but there’s not much else about you’d be afraid of.
Hargam would have preferred better ground but I think the front two from this year’s race could very well finish in those positions again, although Mullins mentioned a Flat campaign for Arctic Fire

I’m a massive Don Poli fan as you know Darren, what a race next year’s Gold Cup could be.
I’d like to know what the problem was with Black Hercules? It’s not the first time he’s thrown in a howler but still I’dlike to know if there was a genuine reason for it. The front three from the Bartlett look chasers and the my only bet for Cheltenham 2016 (bar a small punt on Don Poli at 8/1 for the GC) has been No More Heroes for the RSA at 14/1. He hurdles alright but the Bartlett really highlighted that he’s just too clumsy too often in the jumping department and a fence could be the making of him. He has bags of scope, stays all day and was luckless this year. I do love seeing an unlucky horse bounce back with a win the following year (Bensalem and Cause Of Causes two that spring to mind) and I think Elliott could have more luck next year.
March 21, 2015 at 15:19 #850610I suspect Vautour is the horse of a lifetime, and would have no problem winning the QM or the Gold Cup. I’ve backed him at 25s for the GC, though I’m a bit unsettled as W Mullins seems increasingly to be hinting that although he’s confident the horse will stay. his speed is a huge asset. In his RP column today to kind of threw in a mention of the QM. But the yard (though not the owner) has UDS for that. Wonder if he’ll end up in the Ryanair? It’s a race I like, but not a championship one and it would be a bit like Ali in his pomp turning up at a local boxing gym to to take on the club champ.
March 27, 2015 at 04:01 #868194Quite a fun game might be to plot the campaigns for Vautour, Djakadam, Don Poli and Coneygree

Suspect Don Poli will go the Durkan, Lexus, Hennessy GC route, Vautour for the K George. How Willie will keep his 3 apart I don’t know. Coneygree will go for Henessey (Newbury) K George, Denman
March 30, 2015 at 23:27 #87103725/1 Apache Stronghold for the Ryanair is far and away the best value for next year’s Festival imo. Wasn’t in the market initially but I see he has been introduced at a frankly ludicrous price.

Can’t see Don Poli & Coneygree meeting till the festival. How would you ride Vautour in the KG? Make all, handy, or drop him in. Of the three, I think Don Poli is wretched value for the Gold Cup, with the assumption being that when he no longer races against trees and parked cars he will win a truly run race. Somebody mentioned hysteria about Coneygree’s Gold Cup, which strikes me as ironic as he is 3rd fav for next year having having won this year’s in a fast time from the front on soft ground. The RSA was run at the pace of a cortège and the more I watch it, the more I think that Don Poli would be keeping Lord Windermere & Bobsworth company in a renewal. And I would rather back Djackadam to improve 5 lbs than Don Poli to improve 10.
