Anyone think the little piece on Khalid Abdullah was excellent?
August 17, 2010 at 13:39 #313224Yep, nice little cameo piece I thought … what a fabulous line-up of stars he’s had over the years … never tire of seeing even a 5 second clip of Dancing Brave swooping down the outside to win the Arc … always sets the pulse racing
Hoping for a good run from Total Command in his colours in the Great Voltigeur.
August 17, 2010 at 21:19 #313299Yes indeed. Good programme all round I thought. In fact I can never understand the types who never have anything good to say about the show. For example someone yesterday posted that they would be watching the races and nothing but the races during the coverage.
Today they would have also missed an interesting serialised interview with Mark Prescott ( I hope he gets asked about the bullfighting photographs in the background which didn’t help with slightly uneasy vibes of animal cruelty in some of his reminiscences).
Also impressive for me was Jim McGrath’s pedigree knowledge/info on the winners of the races…..not over laboured but there to enlighten the viewer if they so chose.
August 17, 2010 at 21:29 #313303But Bob, you’ve got to admit, this is not the norm for C4 Racing. What they did today was excellent, but usually it’s nothing but tosh inbetween races – like Matt Dawson comparing a rugby player to a racehorse

Seems like they’re stepping up a gear to the BBC’s standard. Although the BBC’s coverage is scarce they do have it all when it’s on. JMO.
August 18, 2010 at 09:03 #313337Agree with Bob W re. Prescott. Interesting insight about someone I’d always presumed to be aloof and snooty.
Think Alastair could sue his employers though for subjecting him to being in a confined space and inhaling Prescott’s cigar smoke. Perhaps it’s one law for the wealthy cigar-smoking elite and another for down-at-heel cigarette smokers. I thought broadcasters were supposed to refrain from smoking images?August 18, 2010 at 09:39 #313347Every piece Jim McGrath does for meetings is very good, he is such an asset to the sport.

Agreed, Jim is top quality!
August 18, 2010 at 11:01 #313356Agreed also. When JM does these type of segments, you can expect them to be very good!
August 18, 2010 at 21:41 #313499Great owner, so many great horses.
August 18, 2010 at 22:00 #313506As Channel 4 racing isn’t on their iplayer it’s a great shame that these interviews and Jim McGrath’s lists are not generally available. There a is such a paucity of good racing related interview material. Unless of course, anyone can tell me where to find these items.

Time was a few years ago that you could occasionally catch the odd wisp from a still-smouldering Down ciggie climbing up one side of the screen of
The Morning Line
. I suspect he wouldn’t have minded Sir Mark doing likewise overly.
