Usual suspects in here, and plenty of quality (obviously) at the head of the market.

Rohaan has went off the boil slightly, but still, surprised to see 14’s on offer, given that there’s a fair old chance he’ll get his ground.

I’m a big fan of potential Irish Challengers, Gustavus Weston, and Romantic Proposal, but they’d have to be considered risky at this stage for all they’re big prices.

I’ve already bet one though, and it’s Brando. I gave him a good mention for The Sprint Cup, and took the 40’s there tonight, but at the same price here, I’m more confident.

He’s got a fine record in this, and though getting on, I could see him retired after this, having been wound up for one last big run.

There’s certainly the chance that he’ll be much bigger on the day if he fails to figure in The Sprint Cup (again), but if that’s the case, I’d be happy to top up. Happy to bet him early here.

Edit. Added Romantic Proposal at the weekend for this.

Not went mad, as she’s not taken up any of her entries over here, but I’m hoping they give it a lot of thought.

She’s got an entry back at The Curragh, a week on Sunday, but hoping she’ll swerve that.

I’m still confident of a big run from Brando, and pleased to see him stand his ground. Took some more at 33’s.

Definitely a race where I’d like another, and with Romantic Proposal not surprisingly absent, I gave a good look to Gustavus Weston, but I can’t see him travelling over with the current forecast.

The other one who appeals at a crazy price is Ainsdale. For all he eventually only managed fourth here last time behind Vadream, I liked the run, and I’ve thought he had a big prize in him for a while. Not sure about the forecast for him either, but at 100’s I can take a chance. If he does line up, I’d hope for four places, and with a good chance his price will hold, possibly one to wait on till then.

Brando definitely my #1 though, and very hopeful.

I think you’ve got the right idea VTC at looking at those at bigger prices. Even in the absence of likely testing ground this season which tends to throw up a big priced winner, the sprint division especially over 6F looks muddling as ever and none of the Group 1 winners over the trip this season even turn up for a variety of reasons. I don’t see many shocks in the other races and the market probably has them about right so this is one I’ll be taking a closer look at nearer the time and I expect given the lack of a standout performer it will attract a close to maximum field.

A tried and tested method I’ve used in the past for this (I haven’t backed them all but a did get last years) is horses who ran well in the Haydock Sprint Cup but not the winner, my theory being they needed a greater test of stamina at the trip but showed they had the ability at this level – Glen Shiel (2nd), Sands Of Mali (5th but not beaten far), my old mate The Tin Man (2nd), Gordon Lord Byron (2nd), Slade Power (2nd) all from the past 10 years came and won at Ascot having finished in those positions in brackets at Haydock. This year the market has some of those horses towards the head of it, probably due to the absence of Emaraaty Ana and Starman but I couldn’t see why Happy Romance (close up 4th at Haydock) was a 20/1 poke compared to Art Power etc from the same race.

Minzaal 10-1 ew. Not shown his hand yet against this ‘exposed field’. I expect he’ll be shorter on the day.

Gustav Weston for me if he travels over from Ireland. 20-1 looks like a fair price.

    Creative Force 6/1

Hopefully the ground will be in his favour and enable him to return to winning form.

His last race on soft ground saw him beaten just a neck by Kinross with Space Blues back in 4th.

He is built like a bullet and hope he gives Will Buick another win towards winning the jockey’s championship. :good: Jac

This race is big on numbers but not the qaulity of a Group 1 contest. That may help Art Power break his duck at this level having zoomed away from a lesser field in Ireland last time. At a longer price Happy Romance looks a live candidate on recent form and I’d be surprised if she’s not on the premises come the finish.

Unlike VTC I’m resisting Brando ( trust me I’ll scream the old boy home if he,s there ) , Glen Shiel has been disappointing this season but he loves Ascot as proved last year so he’s a def play with the blinkers on , the other I’m going to back to is Ventura Diamond , she needs to find plenty but this isn’t the greatest champions sprint , she can get lit up and doesn’t always find at the end of races but Spencer is the man to switch her off
