I forgot about that Mike, but i remember reading her + Lemista were put out in a field after their wins, so it’s plausible. Form of the french race hasn’t worked out badly either.
She’s a good staying filly and i don’t think the french style of racing would’ve suited her.
No reason she wouldn’t Frenchy? Although they could well run Magical here too, but she’s got the other option?

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 13, 2020 at 14:37 #1505908She definitely wouldn’t have liked the French crawl. It was a good pace in Ireland. Trouble is she’ll likely need a good pace here as well. Will she get it? Hard to tell, but she does look like the pick of the 3 year olds and the 4 year olds+ don’t look quite good enough and got to be vulnerable with the weight.
Assuming Magical goes for the Champions Stakes, which I believe she does.
October 13, 2020 at 15:20 #1505912Yes Frenchy I had read comments about this being the main target prior to the French race, hence why my money is on. Regarding pace, the Oppenheimer filly likes to be up there so she should get some.
October 13, 2020 at 16:58 #1505923I see magical pushed out to 5/1 by BF and PP for the Fillies and Mares and for the champion stakes made 13/8 fav with them. WH tightened to 5/2 as well with Bedfred coming into 15/8 and pushing her out for the F&M to 5/1. I wonder of the bookies know something we don’t. WH now into 15/8.
October 13, 2020 at 17:11 #1505924Thought alpinista was extremely unlucky to get beaten by antonia de vega
She got checked just as ADV made her move and lost a couple of lengths
8/1 is tempting me
October 13, 2020 at 18:29 #1505932EVEN SO 10/1 i got 3yos have fine record in this race to

Do you remember where you saw them? Would like to see them. Definitely leaning towards Even So at the moment
FF Alpinista really ought to be beating ADV checked or not for me. Not sure she’ll have the speed to win this
October 13, 2020 at 19:49 #1505948Nevermind being checked, she was given a poor ride as well given what we know about the filly. I’d say if it’s soft she’ll be absolutely fine over 1m4 at Ascot? Just ride her more prominent.
I like Even So, but considering Harrington has come out and said they think they got CP wrong and she’s more a 10f filly, has Even So that good form? In behind that was Passion.
Basically i’m finding this race a hard one to read.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!October 13, 2020 at 20:06 #1505950Don’t think any of these fillies have particularly good form jack, its a very poor group 1
I think alpinista is a solid e/w bet and have taken some 8/1
Dame malliot will ensure it is enough of a stamina test
October 13, 2020 at 20:36 #1505959Alpinista has a big staying pedigree when going through Dosage, so it’s not a huge surprise she couldn’t reel in ADV whether it was checked or bad ride or whatever. But 6/9 winners were 3 year olds and this group of 4year olds + running in this don’t look upto normal standard, so I think a 3 year old will win it. Even So has to step up again on what she’s done, but that’s entirely possible for her. Alpinista has a chance, so too does Wonderful Tonight, I can see why she has come in for some support.
What just swings it for me, in a very tricky, average looking renewal is that the Oaks-Vermeille route has been done twice before in the last 6 runnings, including last year.
Even So 6/1
October 13, 2020 at 20:37 #1505960Dame Malliot didn’t make it a test last time FF, she tried to dictate a slow pace. Even So will definitely need someone to make the running otherwise she won’t win this
October 13, 2020 at 20:54 #1505962The vermeille was run 4 seconds faster than standard according to the racing post website
And the two horses who were held up finished first and second so she can’t have gone too slow in front
Though I have no idea how reliable the timings are for french races
October 13, 2020 at 21:07 #1505963Over 4 seconds faster than standard. One of the fastest races of the day. I don’t see the pace of the race being much of a problem myself.
October 13, 2020 at 21:18 #1505964Was it? That’s weird maybe just something to do with the ground conditions. Just watch it again, you can tell it was a slow pace and turned into a bit of a sprint
October 13, 2020 at 21:52 #1505966It was around 7 seconds faster than the prix foy over the same C&D on the same day
Possible it looked like a sprint because dame malliot is very slow
October 14, 2020 at 08:41 #1506012It’s going to be a bit softer than I thought, will add Wonderful Tonight as a saver.
Even So 6/1
Wonderful Tonight 4/1 (Saver)October 14, 2020 at 08:54 #1506014The Prix Foy was definitely a crawl though, so no point comparing to that. Personally I don’t take that much notice of race times unless I want to compare ground conditions to previous races etc. It’s possible overall it was a decent time, but watch the race, they went off okay and they slowed into a crawl mid-way round, it’s obvious to see it, they all backed up into each other. Then they quickened up. I guess they must have been going pretty quick in the last 3 furlongs.
But that type of race again will be a negative for Even So and Alpinista. They need a strong even pace to aim at. The Irish Derby was a strong test and Alpinista is full of stamina. I would imagine that Dame Malliot will try the same tactics and slow the race down from the front. I’m not convinced there will be strong pace, it’s more in hope for me.
