Bolt – clean as a whistle. Human equivalent of Sea Bird and Arkle rolled into one.

A quick aside : I visited a bookmaker (WH) on my travels to England’s green and pleasnt land recently, whereupon two men approached the counter asking for the odds on Asafa Powell to win the 100 metres gold – asserting to all within earshot that "this Bolt guy is a choker." They availed themselves of the 6/1 and watched their non choker fail to win a medal as Mr Bolt sauntered home. Oh how we all laughed.
Scottish cyclists – cleaner than clean x 2.
English cyclists – Hmmm… ?

August 20, 2008 at 21:47 #177523Kelly Sotherton has trained very, very hard for years, devoting her life to trying to achieve success at her chosen sport. Almost throughout her career she has done so in the fairly certain knowledge that several of her competitors were ‘not clean’. That must, at times when her training programmes were not going well or when she’s been at al ow ebb generally, have been devastating.
If it was me I think I’d have given up. I’d certainly have had a fair bit to say on it. However, while she has commented on the situation publicly in the past, Kelly has continued to compete and has been dignified throughout.
Athletics needs to be seen to be cleaner than clean. there should be no ‘second chance’ for any athlete not abiding by the rules concerning drugs. That goes for those who miss the mandatory drugs testing sessions too, for whatever reason. (Same goes for those who cheat at racing by the way. Kick them out for good.)
Pompete – agreed it is easy to throw mud but some of the targets are easy to spot and I’d suggest I’ve not missed with either of the two I threw the mudpies at.

Not saying I would disagree Corm but I do try and not too. Anyway you know what I mean.
Nevertheless, I think this Olympics has been really enjoyable. With the achievements of Chris Hoy and the rest of the Cyclists, from a British point of view, ranking as the highlight. Let’s all hope the Scots don’t go independent before 2012
August 25, 2008 at 03:12 #178089Good move by the IOC to freeze all the drug test samples for the next 8 years whilst improvements are made in testing. Many doctors spoke of the extensive masking agents that cannot be traced in tests, alongside the actual drugs themselves.
Will be good to see Grant Hackett win that 1500m gold medal after all.
August 25, 2008 at 10:37 #178105Yes MD – should be standard practise. The performances of the USA sprint team, which have declined in the face of improved drugs regimes and against a backdrop of many of their stars being found to be less than clean, being one illustration of the effect of tightening up the testing procedures.
Drugs offences should carry mandatory life ban in all sports and, I’ll repeat one more time, those missing their tests should have no place in sport either. Zero tolerance is the only way to clean it up. Some athletes see a two year ban as small price to pay if they can use drugs to build up muscle, the effects of which can be beneficial beyond the duration of the ban.
