Thanks Nathan – just felt the ground would make a difference.

Think Adayar might have won had Buick been able to hold onto him until the home straight – that move he made around the turn looked against Buick’s wishes

Ham- you weren’t saying that after the Juddmonte, were you?

Baaeed just didn’t pick up. Ground? Over the top? Who knows? 🤷‍♂️

Such a pity he couldn’t go unbeaten but it also shows just how exceptional Frankel was.

Jim Crowley has just confirmed it was the ground.

It was the ground. And the wrong race as it turned out. I mentioned on here the QEII was perhaps the best race for him on soft. Despite that i still thought he could do it today.

He has won on soft ground and whilst they didn’t appear to go quick early on, Ascot you are on a continuous climb all the way from Swinley Bottom and I think it was a combination off that and the ground that found him out – those condition are a long way removed from a York’s flat 10.5F on good ground.

Kind of sad that it ended that way but as Glad said it puts Frankel’s performance missing the break on worse ground against a confirmed mud lover into perspective.

Roaring Lion dropped back to the mile on deep ground to win the QE2, so maybe this would have been the better option. The QE2 did not look the strongest Group 1 in the world either.

However, the Champion Stakes was clearly their long term target and it would have been difficult to drop back in distance after his York win.

At least we know he would not have won the Arc now!

Absolutely not glad, see above id have had baaeed winning this on any ground, was more a throw away comment that i bet they wish they just went for it in the end…

Atleast we know how the arc would have went anyway…

He wouldn’t have won today’s race after a mile so there is a strong argument that he would have struggled to win the QE2 had he ran in that instead.

His races have been pretty well spaced out and he is a very laid back character so whilst he put in a big effort at York it wasn’t as if he was in an all out fight so I am not of the opinion that a hard season has caught up with him – at the end of the day he is a horse and as the old saying goes ‘they are not machines’.

Not a great day out for Coolmore today. Mind you, looking the last couple of years they haven’t won anything at the meeting then either, I don’t think they are too bothered about it.

First time they’ve got Baaeed off the bridle? Didn’t find a lot. Probably didnt pick up in the ground. Shame but they aren’t machines and hes had a stellar career, too much made of unbeaten horses for my liking. Take nothing away from those who finished in front of him, all good horses, not sure on plans for Adayar but Bay Bridge and My Prospero are exciting prospects for next season.

Does it make me a bad person that a part of me was happy to see Baaed beaten today to justify my view all the hype being heaped on the horse was premature as in my opinion he was being overrated?
However I make no apologies for it but will say he’s a very good horse indeed with his reputation paying the price for connections cowardice as I don’t believe defeat in the Arc would have been viewed negatively.
His future now at stud has taken a knock and it will be interesting at what level they fix fees in order to build a book of mares worthy of this excellent racehorse.
    good luck to all

The Lads are more interested in the Breeders Cup.

I am not sure it has. Breeders will still be lining up to use him. Very few people will dwell on his defeat today, especially if there is a good horse or two in his first crop.

He was brilliant at York and more than justified the hype that day but the reaction to his wins at Goodwood and Newbury this season were a bit over the top.
