I’d heavily favour him over altior as it stands

Altior has been getting slower, he only just pulled it out against politologue and sceau royal last year

Defi is miles better than both of those

Altior also seemed to have a very hard race against cyrname and hes 10 now, will he even be as good as last year come Cheltenham let alone back to his best. I have my doubts personally, that spark just wasnt there and him getting pulled out of christmas and last week suggests it’s still not back to me.

Chacun is the one I’m worried about at this stage, if altior was to come out and look full of life again then il happily change my opinion.

Yeah but sprinter didn’t have to beat defi , I’d much rather take rpthe 2,s of defi in this than the 3,s for Champ in the RSA , I struggle to see defi,s faults while I believe champ has a few

What’s interesting about Defi for this race is that the 2 mile form is over a soft or heavy surface. I see Defi as a Ryanair horse on decent ground. I think Defi’s jumping will be put under pressure on quickish ground. Which is why the trainer is non committal at this stage as he knows like I do that ground is going to be an important factor. Having said that if Chacun or Altior are not in A1 form coming into this connections may be tempted anyway as his class may get him through but we will see.

Still happy with my position here, and hopeful of much better from Chacun next week, and also hoping to see Dynamite Dollars in a fortnight.

Had to have my annual ill fated bet on Ordinary World. He always comes up short, but I just had to do it.

    Mullins post race comments…

“I thought Min was the horse to beat in the race. It was a tough choice for Paul to make.

“Chacun Pour Soi looks the horse of the future and I think that’s why Paul made the decision, he thought this was the horse who was coming up.

“The day I brought him here for Cheltenham trials day [schooling at Leopardstown] last year I let him go around with a few of ours.

“I said to Danny [Mullins], who rode him, to follow around but after two fences he was in front and led all the Cheltenham horses.

“It was absolutely eye-opening. Once every two or three years you get a horse coming up the gallops who shows you something they shouldn’t be able to do and that’s what he did that day.

“I said ‘wow we could have something here’ and he’s turned out that way.”

Meh, Chacun is a lay all day here. Doesn’t do too much off the bridle to my eye.

Nicky Henderson on Altior’s build up for Saturday…

“When he schooled the other day, no horse in England would have kept up with him, he was electric.”

I’ve heard him speak like that just before a horse ” didn’t look right this morning” and misses a race.

Totally agree with Mike regarding DDS…I’m convinced the Ryanair is his for the taking! I could see him maybe nicking this if Altior doesn’t run but if he comes out and wins well on Saturday I think this is his for the taking!

You have to question the last two wins of DDS over a 12 year old Un De Sceaux who’s best years are surely behind him and we’re as a genuine two miler a few years ago…the 3rd home in both those races would surely back that up? Then you look at his two efforts over two miles on better ground and he’s been beaten both times…last season at Punchestown comfortably by CPS and on his chase debut finishing last of 5 at Cheltenham. The only way I see him winning this is if Altior doesn’t run and if it’s really soft ground.

I couldn’t have CPS either beaten on reappearance by a two and a half miler and looked to be going up and down on the spot late on last time beating another two and a half miler…

I just can’t see any way how he will get far enough away from Altior to be able to repel him up that hill…

I took the 7/2 Altior the other day and hoping he comes out Saturday and shows his well being…if he does I just don’t see him getting beat in this…

Hobbs said in the paper that if altior was to win impressively they would strongly consider the ryanair

Yes I think he’d have to, especially if it’s decent ground. I thought the comment from Henderson about no horse being able to live with Altior’s pace was kind of aimed at Hobbs and deep down he knows it I think..

Have had a very speculative bet on Kalashnikov for this race. Took the 140/1 win and 40/1 place on Betfair. Winner of Betfair Hurdle followed by a neck second in Supreme Novices Hurdle. Backed him for the Arkle and he was travelling very well until he fell. Connections are running him over 2 miles in Game Spirit today, he is second favourite. He is entered for both Champion Chase and Ryanair Chase, if he wins or finishes close to winner today he may well run in Champion Chase which is usually a small field (only 9 runners in last 2 runnings) so for me the 40/1 place looks a value bet, more so if the going is soft.

Firstly JP will have the final say where defi goes , Altior will win this today as he pleases ….if all is well , so it was a pretty pointless comment from Hobbs , 2 things , firstly why as both Nico and Henderson so happy to put Altior up in distance watch last year’s champion chase , he got tapped for speed and out stayed them up the hill , there’s much more quality in the years race , I hope they have the guts to take Altior on ….he is beatable , if defi gets in front he won’t come back to him
