I’ve usually got very little interest in the G1 2 Mile Chase Division, it’s one that normally passes me by, and I rarely comment on it, let alone start a thread on the divisions showpiece, but with a realistic chance that Altior will step up, then I thought I’d have an early look.
Nothing too much jumping out, though I could make a case for A Plus Tard back down in trip, but in all honesty, I’ll be trying to make a case for him in a lot of races.
No, the one who looks wrong at this stage, is a bit of a forgotten horse, Dynamite Dollars. He’s came on leaps and bounds this year, and I thought the highlight was Sandown, in The Henry VIII. He wasn’t quite as impressive next time, but generally he was going the right way before his setback. Crucially for him, he’s in the best of hands, and Nicholls can surely get that improvement out of him, as he did with Dodging Bullets.
If Altior does indeed step up, then this division will be weaker than ever, and I think it’s worth looking for the value just now, especially if Altior performs well in The Melling Chase. There could be others, and DD might not be the same horse after his setback, but that’s factored into the price, a price which looks well worth risking.
Dynamite Dollars 50’s
March 25, 2019 at 13:43 #1404728Snap!
March 25, 2019 at 15:53 #1404739Im still finding it hard to get away from sceau royal again, fancied him this year as i had previously said, 20/1 is just a touch short, if i can get that or bigger by the end of the hear ill probably back him, but Had my first stab yesterday with Chacun pour soi @50/1 Seemingly not fazed about giving up his novice status the other week and given how being tentative with an animal tends to not pay off for whatever reason, if he can stay sound i think he will be campigned agressively towards something like this, obvioisly has plenty of trials to pass between now and this, I liked dynamite dollars but not sure what that forms upto atm, for all he did it well enough, but he has alot less to prove than CPS!
March 25, 2019 at 17:30 #1404751Ham, I’m no quite sure how I managed to miss that price on Chacun, especially as he’s right next to Dynamite Dollars On Oddschecker, and after discussing him with you the other week.
I’m certainly no paying attention though, and if you don’t mind Ham, I’ll take a wee bit of that 50’s myself, looks a crazy price on his comeback, which was highly impressive.
I normally blank this race, but that’s two in the bag, and it’s no even April. That’ll be more than enough, and hopefully one of them makes it.
March 28, 2019 at 16:57 #1410724I wonder if Footpad will run here if Altior steps up in distance
although he wasn’t at his best this year it feels like he ran in the Ryanair to avoid Altior as his races were all 2 miles before Cheltenham.Charles Darwin to conquer the World
March 29, 2019 at 11:40 #1412548Dodgy wherever he goes now nathan that hes bled, couldnt back him ever again now..
May 2, 2019 at 19:37 #1430438I followed VtC and Ham with a small bet on Chacun Pour Soi at 50-1 (thanks guys). Delighted with that performance and the quotes from Mullins afterwards were even more enlightening…
“I think he could be a star. If he’s as good as I think he is, God knows what will happen.”
He stopped short on naming a target but with a performance like that he has to come here. I don’t think Defi was helped by the loose horse but nonetheless it was a cracking performance. Roll on March 2020.
June 10, 2019 at 22:12 #1444997I’ve got a chunk on at 8/1 for any race for Chacun Pour Soi and fully expect to see him run in the Champion Chase.
Monster.
June 11, 2019 at 17:15 #1445060Hendo with some big decisions to make with Altior this season
June 12, 2019 at 11:11 #1445115What price would Chacun Pour Soi even be to make it here?
Looked very good, but with his past in mind, fair to assume he’s very very fragile.

Hindsight is 20/20 so make the most of it!November 10, 2019 at 11:38 #1474481Duc de Genievres runs today. It’s a grade 2 race against grade 2 opposition and, unless he wins by half the track, the Champion Chase market will likely be more or less unmoved. Who knows where he will be in March and if CPS is sound, fit and firing then the latter will probably be left to wipe the floor with the Champion Chase field while most or all of whatever is still standing from Min, Douvan, Cilaos Emery, Footpad, Real Steel and DDG will be farmed out to the Ryanair or kept with Getabird for Fairyhouse, Aintree and Punchestown.
Still, got to back my TTF horse for this and he jumped well round here. C’mon the little grey duke!
Duc de Genievres 20-1
November 10, 2019 at 14:18 #1474510Um…not looking like my best bet ever.
November 10, 2019 at 16:46 #1474537God knows how that horse won the arkle
What a terrible race it must’ve been
Hes been comprehensively beaten in 4 of his 6 chases yet hacks up in the arkle
November 10, 2019 at 17:01 #1474540The ground was desperate and one or two well fancied horses fell.
November 10, 2019 at 17:52 #1474544The best horses didnt make it to the race as well
Cilaos emery and le richebourg
That hardline went off fav shows how poor a race it was
November 14, 2019 at 03:13 #1474763Sometimes the most obvious answers are right in front of your face, which leads me nicely to Altior @ 5/1 to win the Champion Chase.
Now I know it’s not the most original selection but surely the 5/1 is about double what the price should be?
I can only really see Altior running in either the Champion Chase or the Gold Cup. Although the distance seems perfect, the Ryanair just isn’t prestigious enough for a horse of Altior’s calibre. So let’s start with the gold cup.
Firstly, it seems like an excellent standard of opposition this season with the top 5 in the betting all boasting strong claims. Not that I think Altior’s team would shy away from that but it would surely have to be in the mindset when deciding on their Cheltenham target. Secondly, and the big one for me, to go from the 2m CC straight up to the 3m 2f plus of the GC in a season would be asking an awful lot. It would take a mightily impressive King George performance for me to believe stamina issues wouldn’t be a problem in a GC and even then the King George suits certain horses who excel at a flat 3 miles (I’m thinking Silviniaco Conte, Might Bite, Thistlecrack) but that doesn’t necessarily translate to the gold cup and I think Altior falls into this category. And that’s based on Altior winning the King George which is by no means a certainty.
In the event that being raised in distance doesn’t work out what would the alternative be? For me the only realistic option left would be the CC and with Chacun Pour Soi looking the only realistic major threat surely that makes the 5/1 too big to ignore?November 14, 2019 at 17:01 #1474816Funny you say that Andy4fingers. I said the exact same to a friend yesterday, What happens if this all doesn’t go to plan. Altior would go here again! And if your not backing him at 5/1 then that is madness.
